My chassis car has 40 spline Mark Williams axles but when I got the car there were no retainers with it. Do I need to go directley to MW for these or can I order them somewhere else?

No brakes at the moment. I'm planning on using discs but I'm going to use a aftermarket bracket kit I found.

The retainer is part of the brake caliper bracket.

below is a picture of my Aerospace rear brake caliper bracket that doubles as a bearing retainer. Your car must have had something similar and was removed.
