Interesting opinion. I have always had an 8 3/4 under my Cuda. Ran high 6's at that track with the 499" wedge. Have a 540 Hemi in front of it now. Drag radials always. I rebuilt it every few years when I had it to the track regularly. But that was due to the noise on the street, not due to failure. It has been together this time for 6 years. Several thousand street miles. But not much track time. And it's still quiet. Just my experience.

In the early '70s I had a SB '57 Chevy with a T10 & 4.88s - drove it everywhere, and street-raced it a lot. (Lots of open spaces back then for that kind of foolishness.) Posi was so tight the inside tire would chatter on a tight turn from a stop. I drove that thing on SoCal freeways for a few miles at a time, daily for a while, and it was BUSY - like 5,000 RPM busy.
I don't recall driving it in the rain, though, and never ran the canyons in it. I think those scenarios are where a spool on the street could be ill-advised.
More to the point of the ad, though: a video of it on track, but did I miss its ET/MPH ?

Baaaa... got one S60 with a spooled 4:30 and another with a 4:56 spool. Never a dull time. Build to run in the 3500-7500 RPM range and with a good vert.... no problems.
A good seat is the key.

Barely streetable with that rearend. A friend ( now deceased) had a '71 roller cammed 340 4 speed Duster, his had an 8-3/4 with 4.56's and 11" slicks... ALWAYS street driven the entire time he owned it.

But did it have as spool or suregrip? The ratio isn't as bad as living with a spool making city corners. You either spin the tires around the corner or hop like a rabbit. Been there done that didn't live with it for long. His Duster used a sure grip unit...SS springs, DC offset shackles, and an old school DC pinion snubber. It was an original 340 4 speed car too.
