Looking at a 440 block & stamped on the ID pad is 7T 440 E HP 3 8 2 not sure what it is 70 440 HP or a truck block looks to have a very thick balancer

There were tests were later blocks had thicker cylinder walls and softer metal They also have upgraded mains 74 up I agree. The myth of the thin walled late blocks has been rescinded. Not sure how that “fact” was started. I’ve sonic tested many blocks and the best blocks I have found were the 76-78 blocks as a whole. Any block can be core shifted.

If you're wanting to make big power,700+HP, start with a good 400 block (sonic tested cylinder walls with .160 minimum cylinder wall thickness on both thrust sides after boring and honing, not a 440 block of any year . That or a race block
