trying to trouble shoot some racket i got goin on in the engine. Noise is VERY audible (louder than my exhaust) at startup/idle, and disappears by 1500rpm. sounds like a CLACKETY CLACK. Usually goes away once the motor warms up, but is ALWAYS there when its cold. Motor burns no oil and runs hard. Just this annoying noise. I originally thought it was lifters that bled down on me, but man, this seems like waaay louder than lifters??? IDEAS????
1973 challenger Dana. 4 speed. Low deck.

it is the lifters. I'd run some thicker oil or put in a hi vol pump or just tolerate it & wait until it stops before you put it in drive. EDIT or put in some new lifters & re break them in.

I had what I thought was a lifter noise start developing in one of my cars. It was a light clicking that disappeared once the engine warmed up. It happened 3 mornings in a row. Then one morning I put in some fresh oil with a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil and to my shock it disappeared.
Well, You say to your shock, but I'd be curious to see how many people have had success using the Mystery Oil. I've actually heard from a few people that it really works, and I used some in the old family grocery getter (mid 80's Subaru s/w, and it worked great to eliminate what I thought was noise indicating a total rebuild!
