will stock 383 pistons on 440 rods work in a 426 wedge?

I don't think so, the c/h would be too low. Or I should say it will but you'll make about 150hp.

Been there done that. Big mistake! Buy the 426 pistons.
Hughes Engines sells them, look under rare and obsolete engines on their web site. About $520.00 set.
