What is every one running with theie Hemi that has a ton of Valve Spring pressure for a Roller Lifter. Friend had his motor come apart because or the liftert. He is going to the Grouved lifter at an Extreme cost and machine work to his New BK Block. Since getting roller lifters rebuild seem to be a no go what lifters do people like more than others. I know what brand that came apart is his hemi but want to hear from others before stating who made them. Also another wanted me to ask, his new hemi with a 650 lift what would be a good roller lifter for his set up, These motor are all 604s or 572s and the seonnd motor is a street cars fo..

Ray Barton told me Jesel. But I have to ask. How can he have a ton of spring pressure with .650" lift? Curious minds want to know.

0.650 lift shouldn't be a big deal. For that kind of lift I'd think any solid roller on the market would be fine. He either got a bad lifter or else he had some sort of issue with the valve train. Maybe the wrong springs or some sort of mechanical issue.

Lifters come in all sorts of grades. There are decent solid rollers from Comp and others that work just fine at lower spring pressure. When you start getting up over 0.800 or 0.900 lift then you need to look at Crower or Isky lifters with bushings or XHD rollers. The really high end race engines use Jesel lifters.

I have Crowers in my Hemi street driven with over .800 lift with no issues after several seasons and hundreds of street miles.

The 604 made 1365hp and it is a guess but the lift is around and inch 1000 or a little more.Spring pressures are huge and this motor came apart first time out. It is also going back to the builder to be replaced, The lifter he is now going to use are not Cheap near twice the money are the bar lifters and have a key way. The person with the 650 lift knows his spring pressures will be no were near the 604. He wants to buy a very good roller lifter that will last on a street driven motor with very few problems or have to be looked at during the year. Since Roller lifter Companies stopped offering a rebuild of their roller lifters he wants something that will last.

So was it a lifter issue? I have had all kinds of issues with my Hemi's over the years. Its been a learning curve. The big engines like yours should have roller cam bearings and lifter guide bushings from what I understand are the basics that all the big builders start with. From there, I would go with the Black Mamba key-way lifters.

I did not do that on either of my 604's but if I did it again, that is the way I would go. The high spring pressures cause all kinds of issues, and those changes will help, as well as the Barton rocker arm system.

So he is going to a Jesel Keyway lifter, should have likely had them in the first place. And probably a larger diameter and wheel. Having said that Isky stuff works very well for most applications. I have Jesels and Isky stuff in all my engines.

My understanding the person with the 604 has never had a Roller Lifter failure befoe. We wanted to take a look to see the exact problem, but he called the builder and packed the motor up in a crate and sent it to him because he wanted to see what went on. Good call by the builder. The guy with the 604 has had 540 572 in his cal over the years and never had any problems. We hope to find out in the future just what happened. The guy with the 650 cam the hemi is a 572 street car and just wants things to work and stay together without living under the hood.

FWIW...I run Isky Red Zone solid roller lifters with needle bearings. The bushed lifters weren't an option when I bought these. My cam is only .672"/.651" lift, but they've been flawless since 2006. Street/strip motor.
