Here's my experience ...
ANY aluminum cover is going to bind with the "stock" torques specs. Not only have I used a couple different aluminum covers but will point out that virtually EVERY used cover you see at swap meets will show significant wear in the cover. This is despite them supposedly being "hard anodized".
What I've started doing is assembling them on a bench with plain nuts and bolts (grade 5). Start by measuring the depth of the pump body and the height of the rotor and stator - make sure there will be clearance once the cover is installed. You want some clearance but no more than .0015. The FSM gives the specs. Now start torqueing the bolts. At about 15 pounds check that the pump spins freely, If so, bump up the torque to 20 and check again. Do this till a) the pump binds or b) you get to 35 foot pounds.
I currently have one that binds at any more than 15 foot pounds ! The bolts are in with lots of red loctite !!
Good luck. Good info, nice approach. Question though. Did you ever use set up blue on the cover and pocket to see where the binding is?

Good luck. I have 2 engines using the full billet Milodon pumps, I'm pretty sure I torque them to less than 15 lb/ft, like you I keep checking the bind with a priming tool by hand 'till I feel it start to bind. IIRC it's around 12 lb/ft with lots of loctite. Luckily we've never had a problem with leaks or anything coming loose.

Question though. Did you ever use set up blue on the cover and pocket to see where the binding is? No I haven't . And I have trouble getting my head around the problem because those aluminum covers are significantly thicker than any stock cast iron piece. And it doesn't seem to matter - the old "cast" Milodon covers will bind and so do the new "billet" ones. I also have a cast piece from Muscle Motors - it binds and I have a billet cover from 440Source and it binds also. I'm stumped. Seems if you just blindly install an aluminum cover at stock torque you're asking for trouble.

When I put mine on. I noticed no intstructions. So I called Milodon and was told to "seat the bolt head flush with the pump cover. Then tighten it a /8th or a 1/4 of a turn, like a spark plug. I use blew locktite on the bolts and snug it about a 1/8 of a turn. Never a leak.

I haven't been able to find one of these covers. Does anyone know where to get them? Also, a photo would help me out a lot. Thanks Milodon #212225. see picture at Marsh Performance, Summit, Mancini, ect Without remote filter, pn#21205 Brian

Good info fellas thanks for sharing, much appreciated Will be interesting to see where it binds when I mick it up. Im replacing the worn out Barton pump with a melling HV and the Milodon cover. When I pulled the old pump I found a freeze plug used to plug a hole in the pump mount face on the block. The other two holes were for the pump drive of course and the block oil feed from the pump. Any thoughts as to what the plugged hole was for ? The block is an MP siamese bore 4.500" bore.
