About 10 posts down is an interview with Landy himself. Here is a particularly cool excerpt:

'Dick Landy: In 1962 people from Chrysler, like Bob McDaniels and Ronnie Householder saw that I was doing pretty good here on the west coast and offered me a car and parts and pieces, to race their Chrysler because not many people were racing them. I said ‘Well, let’s try it out, let’s see what the deal is.’ I had heard a lot about it. They brought a car out and I ran it, and I realized that in dead-stock tune it was going almost as fast as we were going with our highly modified "stock" cars at that time. I was just shocked. I had to switch. The performance is what I liked. At that time, I said ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ So, they furnished me with a Plymouth, and I raced that all through ’62. Then in ‘63, I got the 426" Wedge, I believe they called it the Stage 2 at that time. I raced that all through that season. Then Dodge came along in ‘64 and wanted me too, because I had mainly raced on the west coast, so the Dodge dealers up here in Orange County wanted to sponsor me and they switched me over to a Dodge. I raced the Dodge Wedge that whole year. It was just fabulous. We were doing great! We were just kind of whipping everybody, you know, it was just remarkable. Chevys and Fords were dead meat, you might say… it was great.

Then, in February 1964, they pop up with this Hemi® engine, a creation of Tom Hoover and the boys - they have always been my heroes through the years. The things I’ve learned from them is just unbelievable and we had a good relationship at that point going over to the Hemi. By mid-year, we switched over to the Hemi two-door sedan with the aluminum front-end. It was fabulous. You know, we really, really dominated out here on the coast and it worked out really well. We went back east once with it, ran a few exhibition match races, raced at Indianapolis and we qualified, and did really well.'

So Cal
Several years back...
In SoCal we had a friday nite @ Cruisers, just down the street from Landy's shop. 1 evening I got there early and Landy was just sitting there, I sat down and we talked for about an hour he told me all kinds of stories about his Dodge deal and events doing match races on the East coast. He was very personable and a great story teller..

Just my $0.02... wink

one year at carlisle, there were practice christmas tree machines you could try out, so my brother and i sat down to see who could out "tree" who.
i pulled out some .000-.005ish lights to my brother's red eyes and snooze fests.
a voice behind us said : "i can see who wins at the track regularly. great lights !"
we turn around, and who was talking, but Dandy Dick Landy himself ! what a great way to meet a legend and his wife ! totally way unexpected for sure. boogie up bow

I met Dick a couple times at carlisle...In 2006 I noticed a 1970 drag racing charger in the show field, looking like his 70 charger. There was a nice couple that brought it there up from delaware? Its been a few years lol!I documented it took pictures and went into building T, to talk with Dick about it and he said he would go out after signing and check it out and he had to verify it with his company in California DLI.He asked me what car of his pictured I'd like?I wasn't sure and he picked up a picture of his 64 coronet and said I liked this one the best!He signed it and gave it to me!The charger was later verified as a car he campaigned if even for a short time.Great Guy and a great day that picture is hanging on the wall. up drive

My favorite Dick Landy memory was from the 1967 U.S. Nationals at Indy.

He was driving a 1968 Dodge Charger to and from the track.

Back then no Internet, just magazines that ran months behind. First one I had ever seen.

I was blown away by what is still one of the best looking cars ever made.

Closest Landy story I have is this one. Back around 1989 I was in Fontana, CA. in "Bill & Ed's" Mopar wrecking yard. Ed Vicroy was the owner & a friend of ours - he himself was a top alcohol driver running a BB Chivvy. Anyway, Ed takes me over to a wrecked 1971 Charger SE that had recently come in - moderate hit in the front. It was Landy's wifes' car - she had piled it up. Ed said the engine ran great & was trying to sell it to me, & I WANTED to buy it, but it was going to be too much of a PITA to get it back to Michigan so I passed on it. RIP Dandy Don.

Here's me & Ed - around 2006 - last time I saw him:

No disrespect but why is it people feel the need to put their arm around somebody of fame/importance?

Guessing with last few years, many people Now feel the need to not even be near people, let alone touch them.
World's become a sad place.
