Would installing a bigger cam in a '99 Ram 360 do any good? Doesn't the computer control engine output? Would the computer need recalculated, and can that be done?

You can bump it up a little without tuning and it will help it. I like hughes smallest cam for stock engine use. No point in going wild though without a tune because the computer won't know what to add extra fuel and rev it higher plus the stock kegger intake won't flow a whole lot no matter how high or how long you lift the valves.

I think flyin ryan may still tune those butt I'm not totally positive.

Summit headers, Hughes cam matched to the car, did the kegger mod and resealed it along with a SCT Tuner tune woke my otherwise stock 1999 6.9 Magnum right up. Still have the recommended 3 hole EFI Injectors and 2 different cams for same combo.

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

On a 1995 360 the Mopar Performance PCM computer upgrade,
and using 260 Sunoco 95 AKI octane grade premium gasoline,
made a “seat of the pants” daily driving difference
and dropped the quartermile ET over 2 seconds..

On hot summer days at an elevation of 400 feet above sea level
one or two of the V8 cylinders would “ping” at full throttle,
when RPM climbed past 3000.

If you cleaned carbon deposits out of cylinders 7&8 the pinging would go away for a thousand miles or so.

Fuel economy got a little worse with the MP PCM computer reflash.

The 1993 to 1997 Magnum 360 V8 camshaft specs are different
than 1998+ camshaft specs

My advice would be to not spend $ on the Magnum 360 V8
... spend money transplanting a 5.7L or bigger V8 Hemi in place of it for many advantages
or buy a Ram with the 5.7 or bigger V8 with the Variram intake manifold.

What Hughes cam did you use? What's the lift and duration? Thanx.

When I had my 94 1500 w/5.9, I did several mods to it. Cat back, K&N FIPK, P-part pcm, 1.7 Crower roller rockers, 1st gen F&B throttle body[ modded stocker]. I did the rockers as opposed to the cam since the cam was very expensive, from Mopar Perf and by their charts was the least power gain, especially if you look at the money outlay. One thing you can do is change the setting on the TPS. I found out about that around 02/03 on a forum. What that entailed was checking the voltage at the back of the unit, key on/no run, to find one of the circuits reading the position change. Don't remember which one. I believe it said to figure out which one read .5v. Once identified, remove the TPS. You'll see there are steel bushings in the screw holes. Remove the bushings. Put it back on. Check the voltage again on that one wire and get it to read like .7-.8v. Tighten the screws back down, make sure it still reads that. What it does is really make the throttle response snappy when driving. It's like when you did a curve kit on a distributor using the heavy weight and the lightest springs. Later on I did put the MP/Mike Leach headers on. Also at that time I put a V10 truck cat on. It had larger in and out on the pipes which worked perfect for the headers and cat back. And get this, it was less expensive than the V8 one at the time

Update, got the cam & spring kit from Hughes, it's actually a Howards cam (.520 lift/278 duration). What injectors should I use with this cam? I want one that uses the original connectors. Thanx again.

The early ones like mine came with 18?lb units, later ones were like 24lb. MP/DC showed 24lb units which worked for many engines, Mopar/gm/ford etc and these were listed for the 2.2/2.5 turbo with 300hp upgrades. When I talked to a tech on the MP tech line, he gave me a pointer. Said to use the Ford Racing/Motorsport 24lb units as they were less expensive and have multiple spray holes, believe they are 4. OE Mopar units are 1, same with the MP units. Better atomization. 24's are fine for higher power upgrades but not sure when you need to go bigger. You'll need to do the math. Also at some point the injector type/connector changed to the thinner style. Don't remember when that happened.

I have the 0814 hughes cam in the 5.9 in my 2002 van. Stock injectors, stock tune, 180 thermostat and no problems running it at all. I really like it. It may take a minute for the computer to learn the new cam when first started up but it can adjust to it no problem.
