Seriously, thanks to all that contributed. The picture shows the culprit. Damn, what a head scratcher. On a rotisserie they took short cuts on $30 wires?

Looks like they just put together a set from a bunch of used ones they had laying around.
I like Firecore wires for anything from a street car to a top fueler.

Seen it more than once,
We used to refer to is as "The customers out of money" (bi---ing) and we're out of time, finish it up and get it outta here"
that should have been petty easy to spot pity

All of the wires were black and the distributor cap boots were all the same. It wasn't until I pulled the spark plugs that I found the problem. Plus the miss was a high speed problem only. The engine idled and ran fine until about 4k rpm.

I'm glad you were able to find the problem. I'm 99% sure that the previous owner got disgusted with the car not running right and there's a good chance that's the only reason he sold it.

I like your way of thinking.

Nah I just know a top fuel driver that runs Rick's wires on his dragster.

I like the old Magnecor wires I have,
and have tested using a Biddle Megger, salt water, or after a suggestion here on Moparts,
strips of aluminum foil wrapped around the wires to test for shorts.

I liked the technical information that the “old” Magnecor put on their website, but is unfortunately now gone, but is on the Internet Archive Wayback machine.

I like how the grade of insulation used on the old Magnecor wires has held up since 1998.

I like how Magnecor offers the option of buying special wires that reduce radio Frequency Interference (RFI)

I like how Magnecor put on their website the Dodge Ram TSB about cross fire using the original factory wire routing.

https://magnecorusa.com/v8/

I am not totally confident the new owners of Magnecor will provide the customer service of the original owner, but they have expanded worldwide and offer lots more options.

I like your way of thinking.

I've had MANY through the shop that were likely sold for the reason mentioned. i could write a book on the issues we've straightened out. wink
