You can’t take money with you when you die , life is short . My father raced up until his early 20’s . Then all he talked about was his next race car . He got as far as getting a power glide . He died at 42 . That’s not happening to me , no matter how much I have to work extra I’m racing and spending whatever it takes . Even Monty died early 50’s , life is for LIVING, as long as your family is fed and has a roof over their head ……spend it on HP ! 100% agree. Work hard, play hard... Words to live by. Casey FJ

Fishing isn't much cheaper. LOL I just had this conversation the other night. LOL My uncle used to give me grief when I started to race. I slowly turned a car that I used to drive into a race only car. When I bought a trailer, he said I was wasting my money "playing". So I took him down to his own garage. He lifts the door and there sits his "big lake boat". A pretty good size blue, sparkly painted fishing boat with about a 5,000 hp outboard on it. It had a trolling motor up front, some big arm thingys that keep it from drifting, live well, radios, etc. Right next to it was his "little lake boat", with a small outboard on the back, trolling motor up front and all the other stuff. There must have been 50 poles on the wall, 4 or 5 tackle boxes, and a better refrigerator than I had in the house, just for bait. I told him "you don't need all that crap just to fish. All you need is a stick, some string, a hook, and a worm". He didn't quite see it that way. Point being, you can spend all you can stand on whatever you want for recreation. I use to say just about any hobbies gets expensive if you get deep enough into it.

I've always got a kick out the stigma, that "Racing is a waste of money" when talking with coworkers. Here in Minnesota, we are surrounded by lakes everywhere. Almost everyone owns a boat, fish house, side by side, snowmobile, cabin, etc... ALL of those are looked at as OK to own, but a race car isn't. I once had a coworker tell me, "It must be rough owning a race car." [censored]??? We made the same amount of money hourly. He smoked, and go to bars every weekend. I choose not to do those things, and spend my money on the car instead. I also do ALL my work, unless it comes to machining parts. It's all about priorities.

I live in northern Wisconsin not a big racing area. Everyone here hunts, fishes, or drinks ( of course now days drugs are more popular it seems like). It all depends on your interests. I also choose to spend my money on cars. Sometimes I do think about living somewhere closer to racing. I told all my kids there only so much money find the hobby you really enjoy and enjoy it.

Looks like my belts are out.....There goes another $130
My GoPro Session died and I can't seem to find another
Trailer door fell off.......$$$$$
New Slicks were $950
New wedge engine.....$$$$$
Rebuild the Hemi $$$$
Trailer registration $167/yr x2 trailers
Diesel fuel still $5/g
New truck tires were $1400

Is just me? But I don't get that much of a thrill driving my car much more than a couple miles on the street. Most of my friends have gone the street route or gave up on old cars. I would never get my investment back so I am trying to get what I can out of it.

I just stopped doing as much racing. Going from naturally aspirated to nitrous was the worst financial decision ever. I even had another car I put together to do some "cheap and easy" footbrake racing. Realized I have no time for a second car, barely enough for one. So I sold it. I'm going to the Rockingham Mopar race on April 8th...it's one I never miss. Going to run the KOS class. It will likely be the only race I do w/ the car this year though.

I may cut down on the racing some this year, but not that far. .....I have three cars at the moment. I would not mind selling one to concentrate on the others, but I like them a lot, so I probably wouldn't let any of them go cheap. One is getting close to being ready, but its going to take a little more time and money.

Just sold one of mine. But because my son has other things he needs to concentrate on other than racing right now. So best solution remove the distraction. Still leaves me with three though. I have not raced any in the last 18 months and not a ton in the last decade. To busy building engines and cars.

Is just me? But I don't get that much of a thrill driving my car much more than a couple miles on the street. Most of my friends have gone the street route or gave up on old cars. Street driving is about doing things on your own terms. I can’t dictate that a track is open, the weather is right, or that I have time at the times things work out. I can’t control what time I have to prep a car through the week so it’s ready to go in Saturday. Today I took the car out and had a blast because things came together the way they did. I wouldn’t mind a quarter mile blast though. Possible with what I have, street not happening with a track car.
I want my fair share
