Shoot, just maintenance is crazy. To change all the fluids/filters and install a new oil pump, pump relief spring and shuttle, and the killer dowel pin fix on my '98 Cummins, I've got close to $500 in all that. I pity people whose only recourse is to go to a shop for repairs.

Another reason why all of the No E.T, & No Prep stuff is so popular. Just show up pay entry fee and race. No inspections, to the techs, most don't even look for any safety equipment let alone if it is current or not.

I know people who are still racing, but just doing a little less these days and not chasing points for the whole season as in years past. Higher track entry fees, non-ethanol fuel, tire wear and tear, fluid changes - it all adds up. That might be me this year.....Maybe do some 4 wheeling/camping on some weekends...to break it up a little... And the guy that fixes his own KDP,,,,,Man, you saved yourself a ton right there.

Plus next year I have switch to somthing else. I have that decision to make. I have a class C IHRA license that expires in April. The track I run at most often has switched to WDA. The other track close to me that I run at is still IHRA. The way I understand it, I can renew my IHRA for 1-year, then show to WDA and for $1 they will give me a WDA equivalent good for this season. But not next year. WDA license transfer form

New belts, license, chassis cert last year. So that’s out of the way. Bought new wheels, slicks, oil change.$2800. Fixed my own trailer doors,$100. Did enough side work over the last 3 weeks to cover way more than that. Now I’ll pick and chose my events. If the race kitty is low, I’ll do more work. Ready for a great year. Looking at multiple race weekends. Nearly 20 races total. Doug

Someone asked Big Jim Dunn once "How much money does it take to run a car?" He said "All of it".
It's all relative. Guys with breckets cars, Super Stockers, Comp, Pro Mod, Pro Stock, fuel cars, all say the same thing. They just add zeros as you go up
Sell the cars and go get a speed boat. Or airplane.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I miss the America I grew up in. I agree 100%!!!! I miss it so much! I am also guilty of having alot of cheap luxury, non- nessecities, but, I really would give them all up for just basics to have the America we once knew.

How do you make a small fortune racing?? Start with a large one. The SO CA version is "how do you get moderately rich from drag racing, be immensely wealthy when you start" Very true! Often makes me think like minded individuals would be better off getting together to make their own mini commmunity with a shared dragstrip.
