Not quite ready to bolt it in the Bee yet, still doing body and paint, but I should have the majority don't this winter. so the 434 is on my run stand, and I am getting ready to order up a converter. The 434 is a pretty basic combo, 440 source heads completely re worked cause they came in the box pretty junky spring, and retainer wise. The short block has diamond flat tops and compression is pretty dead nuts at 10:1. using a old eddy DP dual plane intake, and a Hughes cam, if I remember correctly its in the 230@.050 range, and 530 ish lift.

Car has a 3.54 geared dana in it, and i'm curious whos converter you guys run with the beat luck. NOT A RACE/DRAG CAR!!! This is a daily car I'm building so I don't want a stupid high stall, but I want it to be fun! every other car I have is a stick, so I'm at a loss for ordering a converter. Do I order the converter off of the cam card? Curious on what you guys do in this department.

The cam specs are part of the equation; other factors are weight, gear, tire OD, HP & TQ curves, RPM range you actually drive in.
I would think/guess something in the 2400-2800 range for that combo, but I'd want to talk to a couple of the better converter guys.

A stock 383 roadrunner converter.

Any idea what kind of torque it will make ?

Boy I honestly don't know, Id hope for 450? I wouldn't think that number is out of line...

This is the camshaft from my memory. The card is in my tool box at my home shop.

I believe the 340, 383 Road runner are very similar if not the same?

factory 10 3/4" converter should easily handle that cam.

it would be interesting to know the actual seat timing for that cam.

another thought; what exhaust?

Iron Manifolds, and a OE exhaust from Gardner exhaust..... I might use another company depending on time lines...

I remember hearing that the highest stall stock Mopar converters were the 1970 383 two barrel C bodies converters, there supposed to stall around 2600 to 2800 RPM shruggy
The stock 1966 to 1971 street Hemi converters would foot stall around 2400 to 2600 RPM shruggy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

hugh's used to market a cam they called 2330. it was an engle camshaft and similar to the newer one shown. i ran that engle for awhile and had no real problems with it and a stock 11 3/4" converter. i've used the comp cams magnum replacement, 222/226 with 110lsa, without issue with a stock converter; but it wasn't a very good performer. those smaller cams with tight lsa's run out of steam fairly quickly, especially with cast manifolds. the comp cams made a lot of cylinder pressure, 190+psi, with 9.3:1 compression. i don't feel comfortable with that kind of cylinder pressure and pump gas. i think all the cams stated above close the intake valve a little too early. the 2330 did perform the best and the comp cams the worst. i would prefer something like the summit 6401 with this build. the summits are just crane clones but i think the 6401 might be a better overall performer with it's 114lsa and cast manifolds. perhaps the crower 271 would be a good choice but i have no experience with it. i think those short hydraulics would make better 383 cams. i would only use a cam that closes the intake valve early on a fairly low compression engine. i think using a stock magnum cam with higher ratio rockers might surprise someone using stock iron manifolds.
