Just wondering if it were possible, or even worth it???

Just trying to get a cheap way at a 5 speed for my truck.

probably for a 4500 which has a separate bell....

3500's are kinda weak, too, IIRC only rated for 300 lb-ft torque. that's why chrysler never offered them behind a 5.9L

I was thinking the 4500's were geared lower for the diesels. Would this be the cheapest route for a decent trans?

What manual transmissions are available? I just don't want to use the NP435, or spend thousands on aftermarket.

to handle a decently powerful 383? what kind of gearing do you want? "truck" type gearing with a 5:1 or deeper first? or more car like gearing with a 3-4:1 first max? truck like, NVG4500. car like, you could maybe look at the tremec T800's in '98-up chev half tons, but I don't think they were ever offered in anything bigger than the 5.3, or a tremec 3550 in a later model mustang....if you're just looking for OD on the cheap, an iron case A833 OD is your best bet......

I think that's what I have in my 95 5.2... It's a one piece and it wore out around 120k. Replaced it at 130k.

What kind of truck is it? What do you use it for? There are quite a few people here running the NV4500 trans in things that weren't factory.

The NV4500 is a brute. It would be what I would put behind a BB in a truck instead of the NV3500. Other wise I would run the OD 833 and be done with it.

I'm building a bagged/slammed 61 shortbed. No concern for overdrive, mileage, hauling or anything. Geared like a street car. I wouldn't be opposed to a 4 speed, or even a 3 speed. The 383 is a 70 Magnum built to about 425hp.
