I'm on a budget and my wiring has never been up to par. No relays, dimming headlights. Loud fuel pump. Its all just annoying now. I can't really afford a 300 dollar painless. What do you guys think about me doing a good thought out install of something like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Land-Rove...bayphotohosting

I was thinking abou these because they come with a couple of relays. A whole bunch of fuses more than I could ever need.

I'm thinking of leaving all of the stock stuff there and just running all my accessories off of this.

After this I'll just have to address some charging issues and I should be good.

If you just go to a pick-a-part and look around at the late model cars, you'll see tons of different fuse block styles and shapes. Just pick one out that fits in your spot, and should be cheap.

I have been doing alot of wiring lately on my car, but I use just universal fuse blocks, relay sockets, weatherpack connectors, etc and make up what I need....but I like wiring.

ya. I'm starting to like it too. I think that after you learn what your doing and start putting things together it gets better. I still have a lot to learn but I'm eager. I think if I get something like this to work and mount it up good it'll be very encouraging for me.

Also what do you think about relay location? All under the dash or put them near the accessory they belong to?

I was kind of thinking some under hood, some in trunk and some under dash.

On relay location...personally I put some in the engine bay and a couple under the dash; just depending on what they were feeding.
Putting them in the engine bay keep the long runs of wiring going the back for instance dead when ever the relay is not energized, instead of having it hot all the time.
If your wiring is run properly should be an issue, but figure it can't hurt. And looking at late model cars, they have the bulk of the relays in the engine bay near the battery and mayb just a couple in the dash (same for fuses..the bulk of the high amp ones in the engine bay and the lower amp ones for interior stuff inside the dash)

Just the way I do it anyways.. (car I am doing now...I have added fuse blocks under the dash to control the interior accessories, and will have all the engine control stuff in the engine bay I figure)

PS. Here was last last little project..abit of wiring in it to play with

wow that's a real cool buildup. You don't really get to see a lot of things from begining to end like that. I'd like to do something similar to a 240z one day.

I agree that you want to go to a JY and get one that works for you, AND the connectors! The one on the bag has a bunch of ports for connectors. Without those, it is useless for you.

I had a 68 dart that was a more of a race car than street. It had a 8 circut "push in" harness. It looked like something the guy picked up at AutoZone or something. It worked very well. Had the car for a few years and had zero problems. I don't know why you couldn't put it in place of the factory fuze box....

Check out the Power Distribution Centers under the hood on the 90's Trucks. The earlier Dakotas have smaller boxes and the later trucks have bigger ones. This one is from a 98 van.

Notice the battery cables on the right. This makes it easy to rework the alternator output and keep it all under the hood. No more burned out bulkheads!

Wiring is pretty straight forward and easy to re purpose. Grag as long a hunk of the harness as you can.

The current project is a EFI Magnum swap and major updates on a 70 W200, been doing lots of wiring work!

I picked up a couple of these 10 circuit universals for the W200, to replace the glass tubes. They were only about $14 each, and easy to work with. I plan to use one for battery power and one for switched power. Still planning.

That is a 94 Ram Power Distribution Center in front of the battery.

I ran what NFURY8 has in his hand. I had an 18 slot keyed 12v ATO block on the firewall by the heaterbox and replaced the factory unit. I had alot of accessories. Ran a smaller 6 slot ATO for the constant 12volts. Dont forget to put a cover over the wiring and label everything. It was a PITA to crawl uner when you blew a fuse but Its the place for a 70 A-Body.......The B-body's.....You can hide in the kick panel.
