What part number is assembly line correct for a 383HP distributor. Is it 3438233 or 3438433 because the dealer parts book lists both?

If it matters this is an e-body with a SPD of 829 and car was built in the Hamtramck plant.

Also were distributors built in batches because when I look at the distributor repo tags offered by Bill Rolik he only offers 4 different date codes? Was it possible to have other date codes then the 4 offered by Rolik?

Thanks for all answers

Galen's "white book" ONLY lists the 3438233 for all 383 4bbl engines - all transmissions & B, C, E-bodies

I'd ASSUME that there were more than 4 weeks of 383 4bbl distributor production.

3438233 would be the assembly line part and 3438234 would be the replacement.

I think Bill makes tags based on known production dates and spread out as to cover the year. It wouldn't be economical for that application to make a tag for every day of the year.

If you have your original he might be able to reproduce it

But a tag for that early of a production date would have the word CHRYSLER on it, which Bill is NOT allowed to stamp on the tag. The original tag is a slightly metallic green color. I have a few early original ones if you are interested.

I did not know what Bill is able and not able to do but you are correct.

He would need permission or have to pay some kind of licensing fee to Chrysler if he planned on using that word. All of his reproduction tags are ones without CHRYSLER on the tag.

I know someone who has an original green tag 3438233 distributor with a 41. 9 date code. It does not say Chrysler on the tag. I can ask him how much he wants if you are interested.
