Raised ports for 600hp?
Sounds like a completely avoidable headache to me.

for that hp range do standard port. you would need custom headers for raised port.

Standard port will be fine for that cubic inch and horse power range. I am making alot more than that with Standard port Heads still with a 10.5:1 pump gas street engine. However, mine is 528".

Nobody cares that I agree, but Stock replacement type heads is all that's needed.

What are the draw backs, if any to the exhaust raised port location in a b/e body stock engine location/stock suspension situation? My goal is 600 horse 426 cu inch street build. To that end I have Hooker slip together headers, mild solid lift crane cam, Milodon gear drive, Indy single 4 intake, 850 Holley. I need to buy heads next, so here I am looking for advice. As stated above, any head will fit your needs. That being said, the best bang for the buck is still the Edelbrocks. The price has gone up but any head will end up costing as much by the time you get them done. I haven't heard of the raised ports causing an interference problem for anybody. The only minor thing you have to do is use a sanding roll to clearance the top of the cylinder for the large intake valve because you are 4.25" bore. Easy-peasy. What this will give you is brand new aluminum heads and the best high flowing ports. There's no way I'm going to pay the same money and not get brand new, latest tech, good stuff.

^ I just wonder if Edelbrocks are a good match for stock displacement, if what I'm reading is correct, 245cc intake runners out of the box.
My iron heads after porting measured 196cc intake port. I'm running a decent sized cam and it's peaking at 7250rpm and not falling off by 7600.

[s][/s] Standard port will be fine for that cubic inch and horse power range. I am making alot more than that with Standard port Heads still with a 10.5:1 pump gas street engine. However, mine is 528". I have the old style Mopar Performance aluminum heads (std port location) on my 11:1 pump gas 572" hemi. Basically aluminum versions of the stock iron heads. Had MCH cnc port them and makes somewhere in the 850 hp ballpark naturally aspirated.

100% agree on the Edelbrock bang for the buck. What about the tipped valve angle head vs the standard valve angle piston relief? Is collision likely? I agree the port volume is probably a touch high. I wouldn't think that would be an issue with the cam he will be running.

Thanks Guys! Other than the headers needing to match the heads there is no other fit issues that I know of going with a raised port head. Please chime in if you know different.
