I know there was just a good thread on here about rocker stands.
I'm interested to find out whether ANY stand will bolt to ANY head, regardless of actual rockershaft positioning.
If I find a "deal" on a pair of heads, are there any heads that require unique and unobtainable stands ?
I'm just not hip on the stand interchangeability.
***********
So then, Part II:
If you get a set of rare and wonderful stands that re-position the shafts, for whatever reason :
Is it commonplace to need compatible rocker arms that are longer, or shorter, or unobtainable, or..........??
************
Are 95% of Hemis all interchangeable and only 5% rare/weird ?
************
I don't mean any billet / nitro / race stuff.

Chrysler stands yes, more or less. "Normal" 426 Hemi stands are all the same. Experimental stuff, D-5, rectangle port heads, 2" valve gear, there's always exceptions. But all the different guys that make heads/stands for Top Fuel etc, that can all be odd ball stuff.

Correcting the rocker geometry by shimming (or machining) the stand height does not have the same effect on the intake and exhaust rockers (even though the same amount is added/removed). To change only one side require the stand bases to be cut at an angle (different height for intakes vs. exhausts), then re-face all bolts to the new alignment. Has it been done? IDK. ??? The intake and exhaust rockers are different lengths, the same .060" etc. shim rotates the shorter intake rocker more degrees than the exhaust rockers. A lash cap (on either side) may help. AFAIK, attempting to get "mid lift" (with the rockers at 50% lift when a line through the rocker pad and shaft center is 90° to the valve stem) is impossible because tip scrubbing is part of the original design (some roller rockers may allow this, Jim Miller claims they don't). Making the valve side 50% just transfers the error to the pushrod side.

On HEMIs it is more important to have a centered rocker/valve tip pattern on the Intake side vs the exhaust side due to the more aggressive arc of the intake rocker (side loading of the stem). I have has success correcting rocker/valve tip aligmnet by moving the stands up or down. This requires opening the dowel locating holes so they can be moved. Typicaly I open them to .375 and use cam bushings to set and hold their position.
