What’s the preferred style of brake piston compressor for disc brakes? Is there a brand that is preferred as well. This is not for a business but a serious hobbiest.

Well, it’s a little different with rear brakes with electric e- brake. Found out tonight.

Well, it’s a little different with rear brakes with electric e- brake. Found out tonight. Several manufacturers sell tools to rotate rear brake pistons as most rear caliper pistons rotate in instead of press in. Lisle sells a universal cube shaped tool that works on many. For my Dart I was able to rotate the pistons to retract in using a needle nose pliers.

I used to use a c-clamp myself, until doing my wife's Edge brakes over the winter. You have to turn the piston clockwise while pushing in, so you need a special compressor for that. Go on Amazon - there are many of these tool sets for around $22.00, & they will last a lifetime. I bought one & now wonder how I ever went without it! WAY easier than a c-clamp, & much more versatile.

on compressing regular disc brake pistons i use a big Chanel lock pliers or a "C" clamp vice grips. i have also just stuck a screwdriver between a brake pad and the rotor and pried the piston in a bit. then removed the caliper and 1 pad on the non piston side. re install caliper, stuck the screwdriver in big gap and press the piston back in.. NOTE when i do all of the above. i loosen the bleeder screw so when i compress the piston in the fluid goes out the bleeder, the piston compresses easily compared to not opening the bleeder and i don't force dirty fluid back into the master cylinder from what i have READ, i hasn't used this tool. the HF tool works pretty good when pressing in rear disc brake pistons with E brake that's part of the rear caliper.. https://www.harborfreight.com/disc-...html?_br_psugg_q=disc+brake+caliper+tool

Last I saw, Lisle tool company makes several different "hand gun" style compressors, I've had one for single piston calipers for 20 years, its awesome and way easier to use than a c clamp ( as strange as that sounds), and they make the compressor for multi-piston as well. for multiple piston calipers, especially fixed one, this is the best tool to use.

For years, I used a C-clamp and pliers to twist the piston in, but last year I bought the HF tool. Why did I wait so long?
It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.
