I bought a set of Magnum 500's for my Challenger, and when we tried to put them on we found that the bolt pattern was correct but the wheel would'nt fit over the hub. Any ideas?

They are Ford wheels. The wheel centers are slightly smaller on the Ford wheels, they probably fit fine on the back?

Yes. He said the center bore was a little too small.

Are you running the stock sized front rotors?

I tried putting 500's on a 76 Charger and found the center hub was too big to fit down inside the wheels. The Charger had factory 15" wheels. Maybe there was a difference in the hub diameter between 14" and 15" wheels.

That could be .I put disc brakes on the front, so there is a chance that the hub is different, but the wheels should still fit on the rear.

The ford ones will not fit front or rear from memory. They used a smaller diameter front hub and also a smaller diameter register on the axle flange for the brake drum. Only solution I can think of to keep using the wheels you just got would be to run a small wheel spacer perhaps and see if that will let the wheel clear (and not rub on the car)

This wont help you but thought I would mention that I purchased a set of chrome rallys for a small bolt pattern 67 Barrcauda from Summit Racing, the wheels were made by Wheel Vintiques. I had the same issue, They would not fit over the front hub (disc brake car) I sent them back to Summit for a refund and bought a different brand. Had no issues. Seems some people have issues with Wheel Vintiques quality.Wonder if thats what you have here?

I have Magnums from a 71 Mach I on my 71 Challenger and they fit fine on the rear. They also fit fine on the front but I have drum brakes up front.

I tried to use Ford ones on a Mopar before and they didn't clear from memory (been some years now..)

I bought the wheels from a friend who also had them on a 66 Satellite and if I'm not mistaken it has disk brakes on it.

Were they repo's or original ones? The ones I was trying to use were factory ones...

If they were stock, then..

I bought a used set of 15X7 ford magnums back in the 80s. Had to enlarge the center hole so the mopar center cap retainer would fit but otherwise they worked perfect.

This subject is very interesting. Two weeks ago I just put on orginal 14"Ford magnum 500 wheels on my 72 Road Runner with disk brakes and didn't have any trouble.

Thanks Moparts

Went to my 72 Road Runner that I said I had Ford magnum 500 wheels on . I reached in thru the slots to see if I could feel if the back of the wheel was against the brake caliber and the wheel was tight against.

Thanks Moparts

Here are the problems I have run into. Ford rims won't work on 73 and up big bearing discs and early Mopar magnums won't clear the floating caliper disc set up's with out a spacer. Never had any problems with any fitting on the rear.

On several (at least 3) occasions I've put repro Ford 14x7 Magnums on drum-brake '68-'69 B-bodies with no problems except the front weights had to be stick-ons and not clipped to the inner lip; clip-ons hit the lip of the upper control arm slightly. (In each case I wanted the weights on the inside for a cleaner look.) No problems at all on the rear. The standard (meaning using caps or covers) stamped Ford wheels do have smaller center holes. None of mine have (or had) disk brakes, so I don't know about any differences there.
