Relentless, the little K car that could (at thedodgegarage.com) Or Mark Gates' Pacer. We all know a MoPar can't be that fast - but a Pacer? Even with a roll bar, you just know it can't beat ya'... -bill
Seduce the attractive, and charm the rest.

This one was a real "SLEEPER" at the MATS this year.. He did a front wheel drive burnout, and had the crowd laughing..
But then he put down an 11.47 stunner..
They were cheering after that..
Picture was from Triple Threat..I knew I had seen it posted..
Chris, Do you know who owns/drives that car? Does the name Boyd Gable ring any bells? Yes, THE Boyd Gable that had the wicked 66 Nova on Mcreary's, back in the OC/LA street racing days. He takes that little 4 banger to Irwindale, and the crowd goes crazy for that car. If they only knew what a legend he was on the streets, in the late 70's - early 80's.
NO..I did not know that.. Billy D and I would have loved to have seen him. We go waaaay back..
I wanted to race Boyd's Nova, way back with my blue 68 Dart..He wanted "5 and the GO".. We would have Spanked him and couldn't get another race..
His Vega was faster than the Nova and the Gypsies bought it so they could tear it apart. The Vega went low 10's back in the 70's on Caldwells...Bet you haven't heard that in awhile (Caldwells).
Chris..

Isn't it Jeremiah that has a pretty cool a-body with BB sleeper?
It's actually a 360 based stroker...and retired. After getting busted a few times last summer on the street and a long winter driving it with chains on half of the time the old battle axe is just too rusty. So rusty it's literally coming apart next to where I welded it up previously to stiffen it back up.
I love these threads! My favorites list:
-quick d100... -n20monster... I don't EVER want any of that thing! -the '67 charger with hubcaps -Mr Smothers knows his sleepers -Any FAST car ripping it up on bias plys crazy, but awesome just the same -jyrki's four door is a new add to my list!
I'm sure there are several that I have forgotten so forgive me on that note. IMHO the creation of a sleeper is somewhat of an art form.
The car below features:
-quiet exhaust -I cut a 1/16" slice out of the driver side collector gasket to give it an exhaust leak in order to hide the sucking sound of the 4150HP. -Three mismatched hub caps, one missing. One is actually from a Pontiac and two are Studebaker (?). -The ever-so-slightly bent antenna adds to the overall presence of imperfection on the car. -My old straw sun hat sits in the package tray to give it that "old man on a drive" impression". -I soaked the almost new whitewall snow tires in traction compound for about a month. They work(ed) surprisingly well. -I lowered the front bench seat to make me appear shorter, it really works with said straw hat above. -NO stickers! Well ok, I have a PP&L wind energy sticker, a Mike Huckabee for President sticker, and little letters on the bumper say "beats walking"
-Almost forgot to give props to Mr. Jamie Passon for sending me a used, imperfect Hurst four speed shifter ball to complete the look of the interior. A nice new white shifter ball would have cut off my hustle many times over.
Designing a sleeper is more social engineering than anything. Sometimes when I would walk out of the grocery store my g/f and I would bust up laughing at how much of a POS and an eyesore my car was. I even had some punk rock chick say "Nice car!" when I was in the bank parking lot one day...as I close the door and a chunk of 1/4 panel falls off.
Ok ok, sorry for the novel. I couldn't sleep and this is a topic, as you all can see, that I have given (too) much thought.

Jeremiah, Thanks for the kind words. I can't believe this, but I actually have two other studebaker hubcaps to match those two. The last time they were used it was as a catch tray for brake fluid when were were bleeding the brakes while "unhibernating" my Dad's '65 Satellite 426 Wedge 4 speed car. After a 20 year sleep. These caps are off a 1961 studebaker lark. Oh wait, maybe this is a bad idea. It might make your car look quicker! Jamie

Thank you. Weighs 3640 with Me. Ran 9.58 @ 142 MPH 1.36 60' on Leaf Springs. Should go slower this year since sinking more money into it. Mopar Big Block, T-400 Trans, Dana60. All motor.

Jeremiah you win hands down, that car of your's was perfect! I need another set of mufflers on the truck as the 2 ultraflows just don't quite it down like it used to be. The father of a friend of mine years ago had a 3/4 ton Ferd with a home-made wooden box on back. The paint was real bad, it was dented, the windows were cracked. Under the hood was a 372 J2 Olds, I don't think anyone around here ever beat it. He pulled the 3 duces off it when my friend, (his son) got caught abusing it's throttle. Dave

white cars! True story. At the strip, get called to the staging lanes for time trials. Pull up by this $150,000 69 Chevelle 502 on the bottle and hand him his hat all the way from 60 foot to the end of the 1/4 mile. So go back to trailer, charging battery and adding fuel. Here comes said donkey. "Wheres the bottle" is the first thing out of his mouth. "I usually catch people on the big end" was what he was muttering when he left!!! Priceless. Birdtracker
