Hoping someone has a seal part number as I can't seem to find anything that fits this truck. It's a Dana 60 rear with full floating axles. The VIN plate isn't exactly readable for the axle ratings so I'm guessing by what I can read it's a 3800 pound front and 4350 pound rear axle? The only other numbers I can read are 7000 and 8000. It has 12 X 2.5 rear brakes. The seal appears to measure approx. 3.625" outside diameter and 2.5" inside diameter. I don't want to remove it and damage it as it isn't leaking right now. There are no visible numbers or manufacturer ID on the seal. NAPA listed one for the D60 with 2.5 rear brakes but the outside diameter is too small. The inside diameter is good. I'm running out of options though so if anyone has run into this before and can shed some light on this I would be very appreciative, thanks.
[edit] I don't know if this axle is original to the truck, it's 46 years old so anything could have happened. The rear hubs have studs for the axles and BUDD is cast into the hub, it has 1/2" wheel studs.

I may have found the seal I need, Timken #416273, fits a bunch of Ford, GM and Jeep trucks. Who knows where this axle or the hubs came from. Got to love the old vehicles. laugh2

I know of at least 4 different hub and bearing combinations that have been in dodge trucks since the early 70s. A couple of questions...

Axles attached to hubs with bolts or a stud, nut, cone washer? If bolts pull one to see if the shaft is machined for a cone washer. Folks sometimes replace the studs with bolts.

Center register, smooth straight, horizontal scallops (8) or a nine smooth undercut from axle flange to wheel flange?

If you have a shaft out, spline count?

Pics?

It has studs with cone washers and nuts. The center register has a smooth under cut close to the wheel flange, that is where BUDD is cast into the hub. I didn't count the splines but they are not course like some GM's I've seen. It's all back together so I don't want to take it back apart right now if I don't have to. The whole purpose of taking it apart in the first place was to check the brakes, recondition as needed and get the parking brake working. I'm waiting on an NOS front parking brake cable to arrive on Monday to finish that off. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow when I get home from work. It's too dark right now and it's still dark when I leave for work.

Ok, i missed where you mentioned Budd in the original post. There's 2 versions of that particular hub used on dodges a 60 would almost certainly have the smaller bearings, the bigger 70 can have inner bearings with close to a 5 inch od.

Seems like that might be the original axle to the truck.

Yeah, they list the 70 and a 60HD with 3" brakes along with the 60 and 2.5" brakes. The 60HD and 70 both have seals with a larger OD and ID. The regular 60 seal lists the OD as 3.3xx" and the ID as 2.5". Mine has the 2.5" ID but the OD of the seal is 3.6xx". The Timken catalog only lists 2 seals with those measurements. One doesn't show up in any cross reference and the other lists it as some early 60's to mid 70's Fords, mid 70's Jeeps, and early 60's to mid 70's GM's. No Dodge trucks at all. It certainly looks original to the truck but who knows.

The aftermarket always have the applications screwed up. Are you sure the ID is 2.500?

Yes, I measured the spindle.

Not all that unusual to find truck rear ends in Ford, Dodge or IHC that have a mix of parts that aren't listed for the vehicle they were sold in. Parts stores that are used to that kind of thing go through interchange manuals and can identify the parts by size and numbers on the seals or drums or other parts. Good parts people are worth searching out when you are in the repair business. Just having some minimum wage kid punching buttons on a computer doesn't make them a parts man.

Screwed up catalog listings are pretty common. The only light trucks I've ever seen with the Budd hubs are Dodge and IH.

That cross reference of application you list sounds like what I call scalloped hubs, I have seen those on many Ford, Jeep J20 and plenty of Dodge trucks. All Dana 60 axles and iirc use the same set38 bearings for inner and outer.
