Hello, I have a 340 with X heads and the shaft-mounted rocker assembly. I need to change some of the valve seals. I really do not want to remove the heads to do it. What valve spring compressor tools do you guys use to compress the valve springs with the heads still bolted to the block for an LA engine? Not sure what questions to ask or specifics to provide. Please ask for details if needed. TYIA

The SC-100 is the unit for the small block mopar. however, you need to buy the adapter plate (SC-146). http://www.lsmproducts.com/lsm_tools/valve_spring_compressorsBetween the two parts, you are at: $205.99 + $59.99 = $265.98. To use it, remove the rocker shaft assembly and bolt it to where the shaft assembly would normally bolt to. Then use the tool on one section of I/E at a time to compress the springs. The good thing about it, you can compress the spring and use both hands to install the retainer and locks. This is cheaper, but may be more difficult to use with one hand while I use my other hand to install the retainer and locks. https://www.manciniracing.com/en2pivaspto.html

Made this up from a few bits and pieces. That's pretty much what I did, I even used the stock shafts. That and some rope. Cost $0.

Explain how that works on a shaft mounted rocker head? There is a plate that bolts on the head, the rocker shafts need to be removed. Mine was purchased for W9 heads but my son has used it on his W2 heads, he had to make a plate but LSM sells the plate now. The main advantage to me is that it holds the spring down on its own and you can use two hands to get keepers in, out and positioned correctly. That all being said I would check with LSM to be sure they have something that will work with your heads. All the LSM stuff that I have is top notch.

I have the LSM for my engine but I don't know if they have one for small blocks but it's worth every penny. Gus
