On my 70 Coronet R/T, the 6-Way drivers seat will flop back into the reclined position whenever leaning back in the seat, or pushing the pedal on the right...

I used to keep an old starter wedged under the seat, but my wife said that was horribly ghetto...to which I told her that's "Mopar style"...she didn't find the humor.

Anyhow, does anyone see anything missing/wrong?

Here's the brackets:

Here's a closeup of the inside of the left bracket:

and here's the inside of the right bracket:

The only thing I can see different/missing is the horseshoe shaped spring on the reclining function on the right side. If that's the culprit, how would I go about finding that only spring?

(and no it's not under the carpet or seat, I already looked)

If its flopping back, something is stripped or broken. I'd start by looking a broken spot welds or stripped teeth or gears.
After it flops back, will it power back up, or do you have to pull it back? They didn't make the stuff under the seat any more heavy duty then they figured they needed to, to get past warranty.

If a missing spring was the cause of your issue, I doubt replacing the spring is going to fix the problem anymore. What ever has been sliding past the spring latch is probably missing teeth by now. Gene

no stripped/elongated/excessively worn gears...

I know that the pics are not super huge high resolution like they should be, but this is moparts and I didn't want to get chastised for my pictures not showing up on a 14" monitor.

The spring obviously serves a purpose or they wiuldn't have wasted the two cents it cost! You could probably make one with some piano wire from a hobby shop. Just make sure you "cold" bend it or it will lose any tension. See it that helps then move to the next step.

I just finished going thru the seat tracks and it is for sure this spring that I need..

I checked out PG Classics reproduction 68-69 B-Body and 70-74 E-Body 6 way seat tracks and it is on theirs..

what's the chances of contacting them and buying a spring directly?

I'm doubtfull that if anyone online has a set of 6-way seat tracks that are so rusty their unusable that the spring will be any good anyhow..

I tried this to see if it'd be a temp solution until I either find a spring, or make one somehow...

did not work...

I only had 1 spring in my tool box drawer, if I had one on the opposite lug, I think it had worked...oh well, only takes a few minutes to pull the seat out and no jack is required.

I'd call http://www.wildcatmopars.com/ and see if they can help. Other than that, the spring "kinda" looks like a torsion bar clip, but I don't have one handy to measure.

I'm bumping this thread because I FINALLY found the correct spring that I'm missing.

I found it on ebay...it cost me 29.99 shipped which is CRAZY for a spring IMHO, but if you don't have it, and need it, and in 2 years this is the only one I've come across, then I guess I gotta pay to play.

There were some for sale on here I saw in the last few weeks.

It looks nothing like a torsion bar clip.

Hello everyone, I'm late to the party but need one of those springs to finish my six-way seat frame. Anyone got a lead on this? Thanks,
Bill
