Just curious what members have done (or may have done) for fuel injection on their rides ???? I was contemplating this for my Sport Satellite . . . can see that Rockauto even has a tank c/w in-tank pump and sending unit . . . so, seems like there is a bit of a retro fit market for it . . . any comments appreciated . . .

I did it two different ways for the same car.
5.9 mag with the stock EFI but aftermarket computer.
Painless was looking for a test car to create a plug and play for the 5.9's before the hemi swap was popular.

A couple of years back I started having issues, so I switched to megasquirt controller.

More for the instant start up and driveablility than anything else.

I tried to do it on the cheap. Probably 600 or so into it the first time around, pumps lines, sending units etc.
put another 600 into it the second time around, added a surge tank, instead of cutting up my new tank.

today you can be into a new system for right around my total, maybe a little more.

A buddy just had the ProFlo4 installed on his 440 powered 69 Coronet. It's been an amazing set-up for him so far, and is performing flawlessly since install a few months ago.

A well thought out fuel system that matches your performance goals is mandatory for both performance and safety.

Lots of options out there, I like the Megasquirt stuff, it has the best feature to dollar ratio, but it does take a little more work to install. I have almost 5 years on a DIYAutotune MS3X kit that I assembled myself with sequential fuel and spark, coil on plug igntion on my small block. It has been a real good experience but I like to really dig into stuff, it was far from bolt together and race.

If I were to be in the market for one of the throttle body units Holley would get my business hands down.

Holley today. I've done many with good results and minimum issues.

Way back in the 90's I put Holley's Projection, the analog one, on my ride. Learned a lot with that swap. Most important thing I learned was that the Projection system was a POS.

I have seen a few guys here that have done the mega squirt stuff . . . very economical !! Although, I was thinking for sake of simplicity and "looks" that I would do some sort of throttle body that would allow the stock air cleaner to be used . . . sort of look stock at first glance . . . LA 360 in the car . . .

Holley all the way, they even have a kit that looks a whole lot like a carb. I think it is the terminator throttle body? The name escapes me right now.

I did FiTech for my install and it was an easy installation and has been running flawlessly.

I've helped out with about a dozen Holley Sniper installs now. They go pretty quick once you learn a little bit. Holley makes a nice system which is very complete including gas tank, fuel pump, Sniper throttle body, EFI ready distributor and some related ignition parts.

I understand the FiTech is “self- learning” with a wide band O2 sensor.

Can the owner custom set the air to fuel ratio,
or is it set at something like 12.7 or 14.7 at the factory and not owner adjustable?

AFR is completely adjustable, within some limit though.

Can the MS3X do cylinder by cylinder variation on fuel and spark?

I mean can
Number 1 cylinder be set to standard fuel injector on time and spark,
but Number 8 cylinder varied to plus 10% more milliseconds of fuel injector on time and Number 8 spark to 2 degrees of retard?

Yes, you can fuel and time each cylinder differently if you are setup for sequential. Sequential requires a cam sensor. I use a Jeep 4.0 cam sensor with an adapter from SD concepts and Andy F's awesome Billet 36-1 trigger wheel.

You have your base fuel table and timing tables, from there you can add or subtract a % of fuel from each cylinder. I have not messed with per cylinder timing but I assume it works the same way.

MS3X can even run closed loop per cylinder if you happen to have 8 02 sensors.

I used a 93 Magnum and converted it to OBD2 so it can be tuned for a cam, headers and possibly an intake and heads later. It is also good for forced induction too.

I helped dyno tune a 408 with Trick Flow heads and a Holley Sniper yesterday. The engine was super sweet with a nice smooth idle and almost 500 ft-lbs of torque. It is going in an A body car so it should really scoot. The owner had gone with the full Holley setup including the EFI distributor and ignition. He'll be able to tune the car with his laptop as he drives down the freeway.

The new Sniper and FiTech TBI EFI are really good for the money. Way better than the old non-wideband O2, non-self learning systems that were way more expensive.
I did the old Edelbrock XT EFI several years back and it was OK, but the old style computer did not offer any additional options. I upgraded the electronics of it with a FAST 2.0 computer system, but I have way too much money into that system.
Just for fun, I put a FiTech 1200 pa on the 500" Charger engine with 12.4:1 compression, and a large 270+ duration @ 0.050", 0.700"+ lift cam just because everyone said you can't use EFI on a engine with a big cam. It actually runs really good. I may have gave up a bit of power because the EFI throttle body is only around 800 cfm, and I was running a 1,000 cfm HP Carb before, but the EFI drivability it so much better I don't want to go back to a carb.

You can probably get away with fitech on that engine because of the big cubic inches. That is a big cam for a 360 but IMO way less radical with 500 inches. There is a certain range of vacuum signal that a preprogrammed unit like fitech will be able to work with, once you find your way outside of that range you will wish you had something with a more programable fuel map.
