Shoot for a weight to power ratio of 5:1 and you'll have enough on tap to run the number if you can hook it up. So 700 hp in a 3500 lb car will do the trick if you can get the power to the ground. It should not be hard to make 700 streetable HP with a stroked Hemi. A 528 with an Edelbrock top end and a modest street roller should easily top 700 hp. If I was building the car I'd use dual Holley Sniper throttle bodies on there just to make it easier to tune. Plus the internal data logging is always a plus when you're trying to sort out a combo with a lot of power. The Sniper also has built in launch control (timing retard) which might come in handy when you try to put the power down.

The more streetable/low maintenance you want it....... the bigger you should make it.

As stated above, cubic inches are good friends for this accomplishment. There are guys running as quick as 9.40's in a street car with only 528 cubes. I have not gone that fast with my 605........And for arguments sake, which block are we talking about? The standard is 572 these days. There are a lot of nice rotating assemblies for this size engine. I have a 605 and it pushes the rod pin up further into the piston, probably as far as you can go. This makes the skirt pretty short and will give you some scuffing of the walls over time. So I would recommend the 572 square 4.5 x 4.5 engine as the best all around size. Me personally, would love to see someone come up with a hemi and wedge option in the future that would allow us to go well beyond some day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LMsBR1dsAs

I agree with the 572” plan........ as long as the block being used is suitable for it. If you didn’t want to max out the bores at 4.500” the first go around, then I’d do a 4.440 bore x 4.50 stroke and build a 557”.
If you’re going to use a small bore block, I’d probably go with the 4.25 stroke(489/496).

There are a few good pump gas 572 combinations floating around here, but I had to do a few searches To find them and add to the research pile.
If the block you end up with is already at 4.500 as mine was, it seems the path of least resistance.
A mildly cleaned up/blended set of Victor heads and middle of the road roller seems to support Upward of 800hp in that environment, even with relatively short duration cams.

My buddy has a beautiful Duster factory block big block Mopar that has dipped into the 9.70’s and street driven often. Nothing unusual for the Pittsburgh area but this one has Mopar stage 5 or 6 heads on it. It’s not a gutting down piece and although it’s not a B body some guys make this harder than it is. Lots of good Mopar parts out there now

Well on another site I was just offered a new in crate mopar performance hemi block for $9,500!!! That was not a typo! Is this a crate Hemi block or complete Hemi crate engine?

I think my combo is pretty mild and simple yet runs good for a heavy car. 11:1 pump gas 572" hemi w/ cnc ported MP heads, Dwayne Porter spec'd solid roller that's very mild and easy on parts, single 4500 manifold, 727 and a 4.10 Dana on leaf springs = 9.50s at 140 mph at 3800 lbs. Ran it NA for about 8 years or so before getting bored and decided to spray it. Now well into the 8s w/ a plate kit. Ran it 1/8 mile this past weekend and went a new best...doing the math it would have easily been an 8.8x pass.
CHIP '70 hemicuda, 575" Hemi, 727, Dana 60 '69 road runner, 440-6, 18 spline 4 speed, Dana 60 '71 Demon, 340, low gear 904, 8.75 '73 Chrysler New Yorker, 440, 727, 8.75 '90 Chevy 454SS Silverado, 476" BBC, TH400, 14 bolt '06 GMC 2500HD LBZ Duramax

It may be one of the older pre World cast iron blocks, no way would I pay that much for one of those blocks \ Does he state the bore size or part number of the block?
