My bee has this type of choke.
I heard what I thought was an exhaust leak. I found the round disc type cap flopping up and down and felt hot puffs. Pushed down on that cap and the idle came up and smoothed out.
What went wrong here?
I am NOT a mechanic but I can change out that choke if that's all it needs to be fixed.

Thank you. Obviously, it has to come apart so I can find out what the deal is. I appreciate your help.

I pulled it apart.
You were right. There is a hole in the front of the choke well.
My options?
I'm guessing I am replacing the manifold, correct?

Does it have the cup for the well ? No. I don't think this style choke had a cup.

sounds like a hole burnt thru the heat crossover in the intake. '69's didn't use that cup. that cup was used in later intakes. That is exactly what it appears to be. I don't feel like trying to do a makeshift repair on the hole. I'm not sure if I should try to find a good used one or a new Edelbrock?

Find someone good at cast iron welding or block the heat crossover Thank you 62Max! I understand I could hunt down someone who welds cast iron, or that I could block off the heat cross over. Either would require pulling the intake. I am looking for opinions as to since the intake has to be pulled regardless, would it just be more prudent to go with something like the Edelbrock 2168 Performer. Would the Performer work height wise for my 69 Bee since I have the N96?

All depends on whether you are satisfied as to how you car drives now,if you drive under normal conditions and are happy as is, I personally wouldn't replace the intake. You may realize a small performance gain but do you really need it? No matter what you decide, you are still going to have to remove to either repair or replace. Years ago I spent a lot of money on engine performance parts for vehicles that never saw a track,99% normal every day driving. Got over that when I decided my funds could be better spent. I've given you my opinion,in the end it's your choice, good luck what ever you decide!

If I use the valley pan with the crossover block, will that be sufficient? This way I keep my stock intake.
Will the valley pan end up like my manifold choke well?

Will the valley pan end up like my manifold choke well? If you use a piece of stainless you shouldn't have a problem. I've run the valley pan without the crossover ( one small hole on one side,I think it is a truck application ) for years and no problem. The only new issue you will have is that your choke will take significantly longer to open.
