Im in the process of rebuilding the front end of the dart and got a nice pair of rebuilt lower control arms that are just bare metal and i really like how they look. I have a can of fluid film and thinking about leaving them bare metal and just coating them with the fluid film, kinda like the factory used to do with the cosmoline. The car is garage kept and not driven in the rain and lucky to see 500 miles a year..Curious if the fluid film will keep the rust off them? Anyone here used it?

It stinks. People say it's great. But it stinks. I'll find another way.

What about using Slip Plate. Napa and Grainger sells it. You spray it on wait about 30 min before buffing. It does give a spot on look of cast iron. Probably would look on strut rods.
Grainger stocks it on their shelves. Napa, you probably need to order.

Any oil will get dirty, wipe them off with thinner and clear them.

I would not use Fluid Film for that. We use it at work for all kinds of stuff, however being a waxy kind of oil, all kinds of dust and dirt will stick to it.

Honestly, I used RPM and it did not hold up for me. Others say it works great.

Did it still rust anyway, like it wasn't even coated?

It took longer then bare metal to rust but if it is going to be damp and get wet it didn`t last very long for me. As I said others say it works great. I guess you can be the judge.

I will only tell you I bought a new dodge diesel in 2000, powerwashed the underside, wiped all bare metal with thinner, cleared all bare metal, 3m yellow body cavity sprayed the sheet metal....it all still looks like new. I have used oil based products before, always need to reapply and it gets dirty. Your results may vary, key was it was new and clean.

What Slip-Plate product are you referring to? I looked at Grainger and saw quite a few to pick from!
Thx,RT

Strictly for convenience in aerosol form and the local Napa store stocks it I buy this stuff for doing touch up and small parts. Once dry it does stay slightly tacky but protection is very good.

I normally buy 5 gallons of wax oil type product (Tecty) and use a dedicated spray gun for big areas and/or entire vehicle.

They stock it on their shelves. Check and see if there is a Grainger in your area.
