the nose fits VERY tight in a machined hole in the bellhousing, is it possible the nose of the starter broke when installing? I had to hone the hole out on mine

Are you using a mini starter? Mine wouldn't fit properly either, but I elected to mill the nose on the starter down a bit rather than modify the bell.

Starter was snug going in but the starter did go all the way in and flush with the bellhousing. Why would the starter not engage with the ring gear right away? Misaligned. Very little aftermarket works without adjustment.

Everything needs checked and double checked. Hell my Keith Black block needed the side ground some for clearance even with a mini starter. It was rubbing and kicking it in crooked.

All of my powerglides (3) are switched over to ATI cases and bellhousings after cracking a case and blowing out fluid last year. 1.69 low gear, 1.80 low gear, and 1.98 low gear. Small block and big block bellhousings

Something isnt on centerline.. ether the starter wheel or the drive is bent New starter, only thing changed was cutting off OE bellhousing and added JW Ultrabell. I'm wondering if the starter snout is tight going in, that might be causing the issue. Getting this starter out is virtually impossible with TTI headers. I think I'll have to remove the transmission to get the starter out. If that's the case, I 5hink I'm going to go back to factory bellhousing abd just put in an old case.

You have 2 choices that I can see.. either you change the way the headers run or you change the trans.. myself I would reroute the headers but I do that stuff on my junk a lot.. good luck
