The car is my 1968 white charger 383. It has the original 727 in it with a 3300 stall. We put it in probably 15 years ago. I don't drive the car that often. lately when I start the car it warms up and then every time you step on the gas the car starts to lunge forward while it's in park. It almost seems like the transmission is engaging while it sits in park.. It's just not running right. Possible stall converter problem? Or do I have tranny trouble?. Doc

I will check reverse this week. Thank you for the Head Start. one more thing. When I am sitting in park and the car is up to temperature I step on the gas and it feels like I am power braking the car. The motor will not even rev properly. It's almost like I am power breaking the car but I'm still in park. Something is definitely engaged..

Test that trans in neutral and then reverse and post your results.

A little minor surgery is in order Doc.
It really doesn't matter whether you win or lose… as long as you look good doing it!

I agree as it sounds like welded rear clutches.
Or a weak Belleville allowed the piston to pop out of its bore and jam the clutch pack.

Update.
So I start the car. Got up to temperature, and Tuned the carburetor to make sure everything was good. Mind you, this car has been off the road and not really driving much in the last 7 years. The car comes up to temperature, and it is lunging a little bit forward while it is in park. I put it in reverse and back out of the garage and then I went from drive to reverse hard a couple of times each way. Next thing you know everything is running free and the motor is revving properly in park. It almost felt like putting it in reverse and slamming it a couple of times each way broke whatever was in there loose. Something was bound up. I took the car down the road back and forth for about 20 minutes. All seems well. Is it possible for the clutch to disengage itself or get stuck? I don't know much about them.
