I've found that if I start out in first and put the throttle most of the way down the selector will actually move from 1-2 and 2-D on it's own fairly prematurely. I can also bump it and move it to the next gear but I have to be quick as it does it by itself. Any ideas?
Also if the car is in high gear (3rd) and I floor it, it will not kick down, just stays in 3rd. Thoughts/Solutions?

Something is amiss. The shifter should not change gear position on it's own. Yes I know. Any solutions?

On my slap stik, I could put it in 1st and push it all the way into neutral without stopping in 2nd or drive. I took it out and cleaned it well. Years of dust, hair, dirt, etc had it all clogged up. A good cleaning, and a little lube, and it is good as new.

they are very simple take your console off and watch it as you move it and make sure the stop is reengaging(sp)usually its just a clean and lube prob.but could be a worn part.

It sounds like its time to fix the broken motor/trans mounts, or fix the broken slap stick mechanism, I suppose an adjustment might help if the problem was 1-2 and maybe 2-3, but going from 1-2 and then 2-3 is pretty unusual.
Those are the only 3 reasons I ever ran across for a Slap Stick not to function correctly. Gene I agree with this. Check your mounts.
