I need some tips on putting the chrome back on the drip rails without banging it up. The car has a new vinyl top the trim almost goes on but needs a little persuasion to snap into place. Can someone point me in the right direction here?
This is a 68 Coronet. Thanks.

I just go slow and use the palm of my hand. I don't know any good short cuts to offer you.

Restoring a car to look "only" as good as the factory made it is like getting a boob job for your wife and having the doctor make them two different sizes to seem more natural

Maybe I'm just weak but I can't seem to push hard enough by hand to get it to snap in place.:o

Rubber mallet and a towel so it does not hit directly

So far no success. Is there a difference between mouldings for a vinyl top car and a non-vinyl top car?
I don't see any different sets listed on Y.O. site.

They are the same. Did yo try and heat the vinyl top and see if it is in the gutter and not hanging over it? Might need to be heated and trimed.

I would not use a towel and a mallet alone.
We installed the ones on my Super Bee by wrapping a towel around a 18" section of 2x4.
Lay the 2x4 along the trim and hit it lightly with the rubber mallet to roll it over the lip.

I have heard they are slightly different, but don't know for a fact. Vinyl slightly wider? I thought the year one version is the wider one. Maybe somebody who actually knows will chime in.

It is down in the gutter and tight to the sides of the drip rail.
I will try the heat to see if maybe softening the vinyl will allow it to compress enough to let the trim snap into place.

With the 2x4 were you laying it long ways (18") against the trim or using the end of it?

I don't have any advise for you reguarding your trim but if the car in question is the one in your sig pic...lets see some pictures.

Or start a post in the "member projects" section.

On my car, a 66 Belvedere, drip rail trim is wider for vinyl top vs no vinyl top. I took off the vinyl and had to get different trim to fit correctly.

I am thinking it is the same for a 68 b-body as I have tried just about everything to get this on and its just shy of making it.
Someone must know for sure.

The 2x4 lays the long way. A 4x4 will work as well. You dont have to hit it hard to get it to work.

Look in the parts book and see if it specifys a w/ vinyl top part number and a w/o part number. If it does, there's your answer.

I tried that but I don't see where it lists the Drain Trough Mouldings.

Where did you find these numbers? I went through my entire parts manual and didn't see them.

So they are different. I wonder if anyone is make the wider ones?
