Agreed, but those heads are more like '75-'78. The 346 was used in '72-'73 and there was another one used in '74 (somebody chime in that has more exact info).

The 452 heads are somewhat idolized, flow is reportedly comparable to 906s but the 452 has hardened exhaust seats. Modern alum heads has reduced the furor for them somewhat, though.

Parts I seek: driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set 16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better. 69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields Send a PM.

I don't know about the high-buck racer circle, but 5-10 years ago most of the guys I knew were planning their street builds with the 452s to get the hardened seats. That's all I was saying.

Now the alum heads are on the scene, so times have changed.

The hardened valve seats in 452's were just induction hardened anyway (I.e. nothing like a hardened valve seat insert), a valve job or two and the hard stuff is gone anyway.

yep , and the big thing to do was go to oversize valves , no clue how far out the induction process went or how deep at the 1.81 size ...

just saying ...

i believe the '452 was 76-78 year engines. 2.08 intake, 1.74 exhaust, about 90cc chambers. inductioned hardened exhaust seat. the induction hardening may vary in depth from .030-.060 deep. i think they're o.k. for a moderate 93 octane street build. going to a larger exhaust valve may be a crap shoot on the induction hardening. some shops that do it say they are putting a new seat on top of the outer portion of the hardening. i did talk to an engineer at a plant that did induction hardening for some ford diesel engines and he said their minimum depth was .030".

I believe that 452's were available in 1971.
