I have tried many different brands on my 1st gen CTD. Of all of them I like the Sumitomas best. They balance well and are the smoothest of any tire I have put on there yet. I have the Encounter H/T on the CTD and just put the Encounter A/T on the 74 Power Wagon. They are quiet and smooth.
Bought them online from Simple Tire. Fast free shipping too.

Trouble is many run P type tires on vans an light trucks.Sorry but they are passanger car tires. To get good mileage and handling etc use LT tires.Sold tires for 30 years and you get what you pay for. Also look at the tire weight.Lots of pricey tires are light. When I buy for my drivers I look at weight of tires.Rocky

Had a set of car tires on my former B van, rode really nice but wow talk about scary when over 60 mph or a nice windy day pushing that big old box around on those soft squishy side wall tires.

Of course you are right. I like the ride the P type so I go with those. The van is used much more as a people hauler than a truck. I don't mind paying the extra money for the increased wear. Too each his own. Hauling people or cargo is all the same. It's weight to the chassis and tires.

Last week I put a set of new shoes on my work truck. Had a flat and it was unrepairable, as I was putting the spare on I noticed that 4 of the 5 tires I had on the trick were from the factory. 98k miles ago. Not quite to the wear bars but close enough that a new set made sense. That's 98k miles of high speed highway (80+), caliche roads, dirt tracks, city streets, oil patch trais, etc. Same tires are on my wife's truck as well. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp...T&tab=SizesA but more expensive than some, but great tires all around. I don't know about snow though, not too much of that around here but this past February I was going through Flagstaff to Vegas and well, they closed the highway right after I got thru. I did put it in 4wd because steering was vague in 2wd. Other than that is went thru just fine.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
