Hi guys.
Just bought a 78 Super Coupe with a 360, so after 20 plus years of playing with big blocks, and owning all kinds of Mopar engines this is actually my first small block.
So what are the most up to date books or such that would help me out, stuff like building strokers, and La and magnum parts interchange etc

For a basic teardown and rebuild book for LA small block
"How to rebuild your small block Mopar"

"How to modify your Mopar Magnum" for magnum style engine and parts

Honestly there is not much new with the small block stuff. It has mostly all been done with a lot of tried and true builds already posted here.

Best advice is to post what type of build you want to do and you will get some good advice from this forum.

Like someone said above if you list a target ET, type of car and app weight, street, street-strip,drag only, budget, type of fuel you are planning to use, and your location we can head you in the right direction.

Yup, pick your level of insanity or addiction, and there's plenty of enabling info here, haha...

I would suggest a 4" cast crank (they're cheap these days) & NO ONE who has ever stroked a SB has regretted it. KB 356 pistons. EQ mag heads with the LA intake bolt pattern. The Don Taylor basic rebuild manual is cheap second hand on eBay & after being on SB's for decades I still refer to it on occaision. The Jim Sylagi (sp) stroker book is OK but has quite a lot of high dollar info that I will never use but it does have some good info in it. Achieve quench (.035"-.040")

I went through a similar situation about ten years ago, and like you, I enjoy having the books as a reference to thumb through on occasion.

One I really enjoyed reading was a SA Design CarTech book called "How to Build Big-Inch Mopar Small Blocks" by Jim Szilagyi.

I would also suggest reading DJVCuda's awesome build thread in the best of moparts/tech archive. It's an absolute masterpeice, both for content and entertainment.

Thanks guys, got a couple books ordered and will be back once I have some time with the car and asses the engine in it. It's a 78 Super Coupe, basically a one year version of the Aspen (F Body) with heavy duty suspension, an e58 360, and a cool paint job with blacked out hood, roof and bumper, they only made 531 of them.

Unless those particular books are different than the big block and hemi books I see talked about all the time, save your money. If you have even a basic knowledge of engine building, you'll scan through those books once and never pick them up again.

Speaking of these, can the antenna cable ends be fixed? I want to use one in my van ( out of an Imperial)
