New to this site, so please forgive my ignorance if any...
When rebuilding a Carter mechanical fuel pump (M6902/M6903), is there a special tool required to remove/install the check valves? Or does one simply use needle nose pliers/vise-grips? Special end spanner wrench? Also, when installing the new diapgragm (assembly), how are the shaft end caps (rivets?) installed and/or crimped?

Thank you for your opinion. Normally I would do just what you sugested, buy a new one, however, in this case, the one I have that I need to rebuild is not built anymore, nor does anyone even list an equal replacement. It is for a marine application and I am having to re-use the housings due to fule-in and fuel out port locations.

Thank you for the link. The directions explain that the valves are driven in for a press-fit. I thought they were threaded. I have an old Carter that is for a marine application that is no longer made, nor is there any recomended replacement. I'm having to re-use the housings due to fuel-in and fuel-out port locations. Your link answered the question. thank you again.

I've been searching for the rebuild kit, but have not had any luck. Does anyone know the part# and vendor for the kit? M6903 carb

Yeah, found this one which is close to the cost of a new pump, hoping to find a more reasonable cost for the kit or just diagrams.

Small punch and the check valves come out nicely. Look at how far they are inserted in the housing before removal. Use small socket to press or tap back in. Kits come with new gasket seal, springs and a brake type rivet in place of the older head. You can reuse head as long as fit is tight.
