You might grab your vice grips with the angled serrations & a rag & grip it just tight enough so you can break it loose & leave minimal damage (if that is critical). I believe there is a special socket for this.

They make special socket for oil sending unit removal, but a deep well 1 1/16 6 point socket will do the job. 12 point sockets won't work, the sending unit has no corners the 12 point has to grab. The 6 point grabs on the flats. Gene Ding ding ding I (do) believe we have a winna!
