Hey gang..
Does anyone have pictures they could post of a actual '68/'69 B-body brake assemblies with 11x3 front & 11x2.5 rears with the drums off? I'm in need of some components and wanna make sure I don't duplicate what I need. Aren't the brake bar/strut only used in the rear in conjuction with the emergency/parking brake lever or is there a strut/bar in the front as well? It's been way too long since I took this apart and I think there were some parts missing actually. I have a service manual, but prefer as well actual pictures of cars today. I believe my HD drum brakes had adjustable capability at all four corners? I just picked up the adjuster kits for all corners this weekend and the complete hardware kits. I believe I need the struts, two of the diamond-shaped shoe guide plates. For sure I need the rear left and right parking/emergency brake lever.

Thanks..
Troy

Troy, I do not have a picture of the rear brakes but I believe you are correct about the strut for the parking brake. I thought HD brakes did NOT have self adjusters. Anyhow, here is a pic of the front brakes on nmy 69RR.

John,
I'm starting to think that myself about the adjuster,, at least for the front. So, on your R.R, you didn't have self-adjusters on the rear either? I found two of the short thick springs just like the ones on the bottom that hold the lower shoes together and add resistance to the adjuster. Didn't want to, but I guess I can tear into my '69 C500 and see the setup, should be the same....

That's correct. No self adjusters on front or rear. I do not have a scanner, but on page 5-6 of the 69 Dodge manual are pictures of the front and rear HD and police brakes. No self adjusters, strut only on rear for parking brake.

You referring to the 69 Service Manual? I was looking at my '68 Service Manua and apparently, they only show the 10" with the adjusters within the brakes section. I'll take a look at my '69 Service Manual............

Troy your car should have the self adjusters on the rear , but I guess you could run without them if you want to adjust the rear every so often .

The 11" brakes are part of the Police Package and do not have self adjusters. Only the rears have the strut which is a functioning part of the emergency/parking brake system.

Dang, then the 11" adjuster kits I got was for nothing.. Oh well.... The hardware kit will work though... Another reason I should have asked first and/or looked at my '69 Charger 500's drums............ My C500 with Dana should be the same as the '68 Hemi R/T...

I would look at the other car , I have yet to crack open an 11" rear drum setup and not find the self adjusters in there ??? But these are not 1 owner , low mileage cars .

Good info. I have 11' rears with no adjusters but have been thinking of adding them as I have better things to do than adjust my brakes every couple of months.

That's a thought as well.. I already have all the components for modify all 4 corners to self-adjusters.... Anyone think of any negative things about modifying the non to adjustable?

Unless you are going for 100% concours correct, go for it. It's one less maintenance issue to address.

Which is why you find them on many of the cars even though they weren't that way from the factory.

If you are going to put a lot of miles on the car , I would add the self adjusters.
If not leave em correct. They will need adjustment about every 5k miles..
Back in the drum brake days the Hot ticket to improve 1/4 mile times was to back off the shoes to reduce drag and HP loss.
Some of the old drag tests will include a word or two about backing off the self adjusters...

For push comes to shove, these are the items I'm in need of...

I'm in need of the parking brake strut and anti-rattle spring. Along with that, I'd like to get 2 or 4 of the adjusters complete (includes the two main components and the hardened thin washer. I also need the two thick lower springs that hold the lower shoes together (star wheel lock spring. Finally, 4 wheel cylinder push rods.

The strut bar, retainer washers and star adjusters can all be sandblasted and refinished. I wire brushed my adjuster threads to get a nice shine to them. The springs are available in kits from Rock Auto and others.
Try a few of the major suppliers like RT specialties, Herb's, Jack's, etc. and you will find everything you need.
By the way, I bought my new 11" front pads at AutoZone for about $30 (special order) and they were the riveted pads and an exact match.

I just did my front brakes and converted to self adjusting. This is for my A12. The adjusters are available new for about $12 I think, but you need to make sure which ones to get. They are different between non and adjusting.
