Hello All,

I have an older Turbo Action 727 Tranz Brake (#17998) that I'll be using for bracket racing. I have not used this setup before and I'm wondering which make of t-brakes you guys use and have proven to be reliable and great performers, especially without any tendency to creep...

I let a friend borrow my trans setup and he had to carry approximately 2000rpm for the turbo action brake to hold steady without any creep. If I run into this same issue, I'll be looking for a better brake that is rock solid without the need for extra rpm to function.

I see products from Cope, Griner, ATI, TCI, etc...

Which has worked for you?

Thanks!

I run a Griner brake that I got from John Cope in 2005. It holds rock steady at 1400 rpms.

I don't think 2000 rpms is bad, I was taught positive displacement pump needs more rpms to set brake. I always power brake when stageing, and then set the brake. And keep up with band adjustments

My Griners (2), Tranzact, and currently Pro Trans brakes all lock in at around 1000 rpm. Only "creep" issue I had was with the 727 that had the Tranzact brake and it was the stator support seals that were worn, not the brake itself.

The brake itself has 2 parts.. the guy that use
to do my trans work had the same issue so after
checking we found that a crack had developed in
a wall of the brake(after contacting TA he sent
2 this was a error on the build.. that wall would
flex back and forth and finally cracked.. if I
recall right that part was $35...after installing
both brakes were great.. the fix was to put a radius
in on that wall).. its still running great today
EDIT
One thing I like about the TA brake is that I dont
use a button to get into reverse.. just shift to
reverse

Set up the 12V to not only apply the trans. brake but the line lock as well. Your last move before pushing the button is to apply brake pressure with the pedal so why not? My Challenger and other door cars I know of are wired this way. It is an option on some delay boxes so no extra wire needed.

Got 4 of the tranzact brakes in use, one was bought back in 1993. the other 3 are the newer billet valve body.

Do the billet based brakes perform better than the cast/oem pieces?

I've been running the same T/A brake since the early 90's and it's always held from idle to WOT. Your friend might have had a leaky trans or weak pump.

Is there a performance or behavior difference between the Cope and the TA?

I'm just wanting a t-brake that is solid and doesn't creep, pretty basic...

I've spoken to several local racers in the last year or two who have complained about turbo action brakes creeping, with the end result being a switch to another manufactures product. There may have been other transmission issues contributing to the TAs poor performance, but who knows...?

Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts, much appreciated!

the applications were different, the Ta's were in 904"s and the Cope went in a 727 so I do not have an apples to apples comparison, the TA's are non low band apply while the Cope is LBA, the Cope is also a pro brake the TA's are not, I think the Ta's have always served me well but I don't think they leave quite as well as the Cope, altho I have not changed the delay in my box and my lights are about the same.
