No picture, but mine was turned around "backwards" with the pulley end towards the back of the car, due to a lack of room, and mounted to a frame rail. An alternator will work running backwards.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

This is the large body GM 100 amp 1 wire mounted with the Jegs SBC chrome $30 mount in a 63 "B" body.
