I'm interested in a roller lifter for a decent price that will handle about .700 lift without uncovering the oil hole, any suggestions? Many years on the street w/a .680-.660 276-281 @ .050 Isky solid roller and solid body lifters..........one rebuild in many years/miles.......

Remember: cam base circle diameter affects lifter position.

I'm having to have a 400 block lifter bores bushed right now due to using Comp Cams AMC lifters for push rod oiling for the Jesel rocker arms I had the motor assembled and had 20 Lbs. oil pressure using my old 1/2 inch Craftsman drill motor to prime it with which I normally get 75 to 80 Lbs. on all my other motors with all the other solid roller lifters I've used before these I tried a set of Crane Ultra lifters with the side cut outs and got zero oil pressure I put in a used set of the early Engles solid body roller lifters and got 75 Lbs. Comp 829-16 solid body are the old tried and true why in the H%&* the others don't do a solid body is beyond me Keep pressures reasonable --no 800 open and they will do fine with ZERO oil pressure issues

We are using a bullet Cam and bullet sells Morel lifters, but they look like from the picture that they are not a solid body lifter The next question is what is the wheel diameter on the different lifters that all of you have listed
Bullet cams recommended a .810 or .820 wheel

I had bad luck with the 829 and spring pressure over 700# over the nose.... Yea I never go that high --usually 700 max and keep an eye on them at LEAST once a season pull and check This entire issue would be better if we could get the solid body with Morel quality and or bushed Drag racers think bigger is better you usually do not need that high of pressure if a good lobe is selected--as engine builders we always ask the cam maker NOT for the latest computer grind--that can be hell on parts but we ask for a smooth proven lobe that is EASY on parts and requires less pressure to work Crazy hot latest thing lobes usually require very high pressure to TRY and control them and for what?? a few more claimed HP?? we are usually bracket racing anyway so what the heck Crazy to not get lobes that are easy on stuff 829's are not the best-by far-- the solid body is the claim to fame zero oil issues- but....they are pretty darn good when used with a good lobe and reasonable pressures and ...are replaced every season--sell old ones at swap and keep rolling BTW if you send in to Comp for rebuild they always say several were no good now you have mix of new and rebuilt at price of new set so that is a bust well documented on here and a lame way to go--sell the old ones and move on OR.....Use Morels, Isky etc with direct oil pressure and maybe bushings THEN still get a smooth lobe and explain you do not want reduced base circle or massive lobe lift that you are fighting that band being exposed--work with pros that knows kinda deal Todd Marsh, Comp, Andy, and others that are just as good--there are many on here and then.....replace every season any darn way to keep a lifter from killing the entire engine Spring pressure to excess to control crazy lobes ( or just for the heck of it) KILLS lifters --as well as dreaded valve float from un-skilled driver--too many RPM in water--etc etc In our circle track builds we had drivers that we could run VERY close piston to valve never an issue and we had drivers we had to jack it with LOTS more PTV because they could make it kiss anyway no matter what--in other words they had no idea how to drive a race car and care for equipment

In an earlier post I mentioned the shrouding around the rollers. This photo of a set of small block roller lifters illustrates my point. Look at the difference in space above the rollers on the lifters I've circled.
A similar lifter in a RB with a .600 lift cam exposed the oil galley to the point the oil poured out. You want a set of lifters with the wheel shrouded (they generally only do it on the galley side of the lifter)

I just verified on my 470 engine that the oil gallery is not uncovered. I'm using unbushed lifter bores, Comp 861 (AMC) roller lifters and I have about 0.800 lift at the valve with 1.65 rocker arms.
When you get close to the limit you need to double check everything. We just put the short block together and then spin the oil pump by hand and watch how the oiling works. Make sure you rotate the engine over a few times so you can see how each lifter oils at max lift. Good advice Andy.
