The original finish is a textured finish called Jewel Black. I ordered a quart of Lacquer from TCB Global for an OEM resto.

If you want to stick to a rattle can, you could order a correct finish from Totally Auto.

Or just test out a section on the dash with flat.

Just did mine. The right stuff is Ditzler 9324. PPG was able to do me a quart in laquer for about $90. It's called suede finish.

I've painted probably a dozen dashes with the suede texture, now I have them powder coated, the finish is a perfect match for the suede & it's much more durable....

Guys, how much paint would be needed to do an interior on a 66 satellite?I guess you only need enough suede for the dash and steering column, the bucket seat backs and doors are a different shade again thats duller than the exterior but shinier than the dash, right?

Which powder do you use that is a good match? I would like to get mine done as well. Thanks

The bucket seat backs are something TOTALY different ....

DO NOT STRIP them, just dye them and deal with the scratches. The jewel black does not look right at all for this application (don't ask someone told me it was the same, so I stripped mine, and now they look like crap).

The orig paint was some rubber paint with a vinal/leather texture to it.

I have played and am playing with this a lot. If you are going to rattle can it, Duplicolor flat black ends up looking exceptionally nice. Only the dash and steering column though. The rest of my interior, while originally black was not the same type of paint or finish. You can pay a lot to get the absolute correct finish or a little and get something that is looks real nice. Also, I have tried clearing over satin, flat, and semi-gloss with really bad results. Nobody makes a clear flat in a can that I can find. Clearing(satin) over flat did some real strange stuff producing a hazing affect. It is your car. spend your $$ where you want but for me, the flat black rattle can actually came out looking nicer that the dash did from the factory.

I wish I could tell you, the guy I had do it has gone out of business, I do know it was a Tiger Drylaq product, I've posted that image before & people have printed it out & shown it to their powdercoater & had it matched....

Wrong. The 66 B-body steering column and interior doors are a full gloss finish. The doors get dull because nobody ever polishes or washes the interior doors. Don't believe it? Go to a car with original paint on the interior doors, wash it, dry it, then polish it, you will see a high gloss finish.

The seat backs and side trim are a vinyl coating like said above.

Every car I've owned has had high gloss paint on painted door/trim panels. Most dashes are suede, but not all. My 65/66 Chryslers have a gloss dash.
