I would like to change front and rear glass over to lexan. Curious as to what company, thickness etc is the better and how much weight was removed.

Pro Glass is who I have used and been very happy with..I have used their molded windshields on a few cars.

I just did a 68 A body. Original glass.. total savings not using the rubber or the stainless trim.. was 27lb in the front 23lb in the rear. And that was going back with 3/16.. Mar resistant

So I guess around 50lb total.. a lot of the replacement glass was lighter.. all that rubber and crap is heavy.. and it all adds up up

Rear and side glass can get away with 1/8 thickness, but if used up front, a brace of some sought needs to be introduced or else it can cave in at speed. 3/16 is usually good to go for the front and still weighs less than original stuff.

I have mad respect for you guys going through these extra miniscule steps to save ounces in a modification. It's just above and beyond what I am willing to do to save an ounce,,,,,,,,or an 1/8.

I also question my madness with ounce counts, but in this case, it's literally about pounds and a good amount of it on the front half of the car. Glass can weigh a ton depending on how much of it is incorporated into the design of the car.

50 lbs is more than an once or two but I'm going to an after market windsheild. In my class if you have an Lexan windshield they add 150 lbs to your minimum.

When my 69 GTX was apart I weight the front and rear glass. They are right at 30 lbs each.
I am thinking I may have to resort to Lexan if my 8.99 doesn't come around. I will go with 1/4 inch so I can re use my factory trim.

After 2 lexan windsheilds, I've opted for after market front glass windshields, a savings of 5 lbs over the factory. Glass is easy to clean and never a bulls-eye issue as with lexan. 1/8" for the rear and 3/16 for the sides if you want the roll up option.

My doors are gutted and regulators are removed. Side glass and rear are all 1/8" Lexan. Door windows move with straps. Vents are 1/4" Lexan. Windshield is still glass. Saved 84lbs on my 64.
