is there a HP point where you should run a motor plate? my engine seems to be twisting too much lately and wondering about buying new mounts or plate it

How about solid mounts or a limiter?

I'm not sure at what HP level one is mandatory, but I'd say around 600-650 hp it's a good idea. Once you use a plate you'll never want to use stock mounts again. At your power level I do think you need one. CHIP

I was wondering the same thing, I have seen the motor mount ears on the block broken off.
I guess you could install the motor plate with the motor sitting on the motor mounts for locating it, then remove the mounts
The ears break off usually because they went to the solid mounts and no limiters... the ears cant take the fore and aft movement of the engine. Even with a motor plate it is advised that you use limiters to control the fore and aft movement

another vote for AndyF motorplate but my 581 hemi is still using stock motor mounts with 850 hp with no problems with a torque strap.

Ari, thanks for the great pictures. i think i want to put on in. good point on the mount pulling on the cylinders too. it just seems like the engine is about to rotate around and scrape my six pack off the ground that plate looks nice and thick too

I have 2 threaded rods(1 on each side) attached to the mount ears then to the chassis, but I'm changing them this spring to a nicer set of heim ends on a rod.... mine look ugly now EDIT Some of the guys have been mounting the limiters on the 2 ears on the trans to the frame rails/chassis

I have a poly trans mount, no problems.
For the fore/aft limiter I used a Comp Engineering kit and attached one end of the rod to the trans crossmember w/ a 90* bracket and then attached the other end to the transmission case at the rear passenger's side corner just above the pan rail. CHIP
