Beautiful engine. I personally would have found a nice Chevy body to throw it in but that’s me. It should be bad azz fast. Goodluck

I guess if you want to go fast and not worry about running over the crankshaft, you do what you gotta do.

Looking at B1 engines for my car right now. It's hard to argue when I'm finding 632 Chevy motors complete ready to run anywhere from $10 to $15 grand. And like it's been said, you really won't find many "Chevy" parts in those motors. Someone tell me the difference between a predator valve cover and a BBC valve cover. Go over to Koeffel's website and look at the B1TS pics. Tell me what difference there is from a BBC head besides the bolt pattern.

That is a great looking barracuda, just don't see enough of those. My challenger will have an actual chebby engine to match the chebby trans and they will be hooked to a ford rear end. The only parts on car from Hamtramck are roof and quarters and doors.

And yes....i do expect mid 4's to be possible......the car would go 5 teens quite a few years ago with a 528ci (572 headed) all aluminum gforce 4 speed all nuts!.....should be double the power turned up but probably 250-300 pounds heavier now......
540ci GENERIC RACE ENGINE Dart big M...Callies crank, lunati rods...Ross pistones! Brodix bb3xtras fully cnc-8.5 to 1 tame solid roller....260's at .050 and .700 lift range twin Bullseye 83mm with 88x96 turbine MS3PRO Ulimate with 210lb bosch injectors
The chassis is a mild steel car so no crazy 1/4 mile blasts.... would only cert to 7.50's
The car should be back in my garage tonight about midnight....I am sweating bullets!

And yes I still have my 72 cuda....and my 87 Chrysler 5th ave with the turbo smallblock.....so dont they make up for it!
What if I drill some holes in the valve covers and jam some sparkplugs down in them...would that make things all better?

My Dad was an electrician so I have some nice holes saws here I can loan you to make those holes. Just remember if they look like Hemi valve covers you have to keep them waxed. Lol.

You could go the cheap route and just put a MOPAR PERFORMANCE decal on the valve cover. John Force put a Chevrolet plaque across his Hemi spark plug holes. Or just keep your hood closed.

Be prepared to be shunned by all... My local track had brand specific days. They wouldn't let the car run with the mopars, or the oldsmobiles. You'll do fine though... your an instigator. My money's on the avenger though.

540ci GENERIC RACE ENGINE
Love it, when ever Chrysler did something Chevy, crank flange, whatever they would refer to it as "generic". One of my favorite Drag Week stories as a little different twist. My son has a 68 Barracuda, pretty much 100% Mopar. It does have port fuel injection and coil near plug ignition. He had a guy take him to the side and tell him he really liked his car even if it did have a Chevy engine!

My son has a 68 Barracuda, pretty much 100% Mopar. It does have port fuel injection and coil near plug ignition. He had a guy take him to the side and tell him he really liked his car even if it did have a Chevy engine! Bingo, we have a winner Winner of what? Does just talking to an uninformed but well intentioned individual earn you a participation trophy now?

Come on Guys, Its Christmas time can't we all just get a long and agree to disagree. When you start to write checks to him and pay for what he is doing then you can give your direct input. Its a hobby not a living. He wants to go get ice-cream in the car in the summer, what's better than that?

Honestly I don't care what he does with his car, it's his. What I am a little fed up with is trying to justify the use of brand x based assemblies by saying there are no brand x parts in them. We all know what it is so just own it.

Be prepared to be shunned by all... My local track had brand specific days. They wouldn't let the car run with the mopars, or the oldsmobiles. You'll do fine though... your an instigator. My money's on the avenger though. I just checked out the Avenger...bad ass....Is it still around?...still similar setup?

I'm Mopar brand only to and I realize my heads-up car will never be up there with the big money ballers but I would like to get it in the high 4's before I die. Kinda tough running at the top on a budget when you do all your own engine work.

As much as it dulls the appeal for me swapping to chevy power, I can't think of a single LOGICAL reason not to do it. Parts O plenty, less cost, and often more power. Hell, if you buy used chevy stuff it's usually 8 cents on the dollar too. Good luck finding something good used in a mope.
Need a chevy block, you have 10 or more choices new, on shelf, same day, and countless used ones.
Hey I need a Mopar block,,,and a time machine.

Hey I need a Mopar block,,,and a time machine. This is very true, plus a gazillion already well sorted combo's. But, to me it's taking the easy route. I would rather walk the road less travelled but man, that road sure has a lot of stones.

This definetly aint the easy route.....i work hard for my money.....I am a small business owner and employee over 50 people and all the headaches that come with it....i actually felt that spending my money on a proven combination would allow me and my family to enjoy the car without as many hassles with the limited amount of time I can allocate it.......and you better believe i spent way more on this motor than i would have just upgrading the BBM that was in the car.

I would rather walk the road less travelled but man, that road sure has a lot of stones. There ya go--I agree with both these mopar gentlemen As an engine builder I do lots of different brands--fact is I have grown so tired of overpriced 440 cores that I did a 289 Ford last January as the core was $100 and right in front of me so--long story short I have done over 20 289's this year--they sell before the paint gets dry--buyers never ask about HP and there is very little if any competition so.... Then I wanted a vintage Front Engine Dragster--found a great frame and well--it would not take a Mopar was too narrow so I put a SBC in it--first one I have ever owned in my life--bought a vintage 1966 Hilborn injection for it at fall swap meet for $600 on $1000 asking price--could I do that with a Mopar?? me thinks not --guess what--I have come to love that little engine It takes a beating while running 15% nitro and laying down low 5 sec runs Yea I miss my Crate Motor Duster and my Super B and all of the other great Mops I have had and yes I still LOVE to build a mean big block Mopar but as a business man it is easier to see the differences between the brands and when a customer starts talking real HP like the 1000 HP goal with a Mopar I cringe!! All while thinking how reasonable a 632 Chevy is and what it cost these days to do that with a Mopar is just not smart $$ for the average guy I LOVE Mopars--but I also love my little Chebby Picture is how I bet you all must be feeling about this thread

Honestly I don't care what he does with his car, it's his. What I am a little fed up with is trying to justify the use of brand x based assemblies by saying there are no brand x parts in them. We all know what it is so just own it. So, you'd be equally as fed up if he had an aftermarket block, with billet internals, and predator heads, and called it a Mopar??

Exactly the opposite of my point. When instigator bought his engine or the pieces for it I'm sure it wasn't labeled as a 632 CID Generic race engine, nor were the components advertised as fitting the Generic race engine. Are Predator heads advertised to fit a Generic engine or a big block Chevy? No, no they are not. They are advertised to fit the 4.8 bore centerline Chrysler engine in either wedge or Hemi bolt pattern. Just call a spade a spade and stop dancing around and parsing words. It's silly.

Purple shafts and pinion snubbers.... will someone kick this guy off the site already?? What you talkin' 'bout Willis? I am having trouble getting the pinion snubber to work with my 4 link though. Maybe the pinion angle is incorrect...

I've been reading this thread and I've been trying to keep an open mind on this subject. Sticking a non brand engine in a specific brand body isn't new by any standard.
Hotrodders have been doing this forever. How many early Fords do you see with small block Chevys in them? Hundreds if not thousands and no one thinks a thing about it. Hell, I'm a Mopar guy and I have a Ford coupe with a Hemi in it. Does that make me a Ford guy? I don't think so... although I do appreciate all brands. That said, Mopar people seem to be way more brand loyal than anyone else. Why? Maybe it is because we do like to "take the road less traveled".
Is is socially acceptable among Mopar guys to stick a Chevy between the frame rails? Serious Mopar people would probably say no. However, many who feel that way fail to take into consideration the reality of today's performance market. In order to remain brand loyal Mopar guys spend more money, take more time scrounging parts, and generally wind up with less horsepower per dollar than the other brands. For some people this almost dictates switching to an off brand like Chevy.
When you take this into consideration it makes sense, even if it's not popular within the Mopar community. Unfortunately as time goes on and the aftermarket for our 60's era Mopars dries up its inevitable that more and more engine swapping between brands will take place.
So is the OP really a closet Chevy guy?? I would have to say, No. He's a Mopar guy that has accepted reality and as others have said, "decided to take the easy (less expensive) road. Although it pains me to say this, trust me.... he won't be the last.

And yes....i do expect mid 4's to be possible......the car would go 5 teens quite a few years ago with a 528ci (572 headed) all aluminum gforce 4 speed all nuts!.....should be double the power turned up but probably 250-300 pounds heavier now......

Think a little more about this They make K members for Fox body Mustangs so they will accept a guess what? Chevy! That swap is so common it is totally normal Now the deal is put an LS in anything--They even put LS kits out for Mazda Miatas so this is not a NEW deal guys hey I remember 15 years ago I raced a Mustang with a 440 in it--named the . "MOTANG" so it cuts across all lines
Lets just say we all love HP and cars and on this site we all Really love Mopars best but hey--older I get the more open I am about most everything in life

Serious question, not trying to be a crap slinger.
If a person wanted a big inch, low maintenance, consistent, reliable engine with 170MPH horsepower in a sub-2500lb car, and not need to be worked on for several hundred runs, they could call R-M and have one, with all new parts, in their driveway in a few days for a little over 20k.
If I wanted the same thing using a Mopar based wedge engine, who do I call, what will it cost, how long will I wait and what block will I use?
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

That is the joy and accomplishment of building a Mopar, you get to figure that out for yourself instead of writing a check. Anybody with the bank roll can write a check for the Chevy. You need at least some skills and or talent to put it all together with a Mopar.

When I built my 434 I got to talk to several great guys who were willing to share their wealth of knowledge and experience. I like figuring out and building stuff, to me it's the most enjoyable part of it. If I were a check writer I'd just take up golf, buy the latest greatest clubs, some funny looking pants and grin like I had good sense.......Sounds really boring doesn't it?

I can't stop.. Going back to the first couple of posts he says, I wanted a strong reliable engine that's cheap, but then went on to say he spent a lot of $$ in that engine. Well why not a BAE engine, are they not strong enough? Put that twin turbo on that engine and I think it'll hold up and make 2-4000 hp (all those top alcohol, Top Fuel, Funny cars sure think they're pretty good). Like one said, he took the misconception, easy way out. Heck I saw one BAE engine of Racing Junk for $7500 less intake-blower. What's more impressive between those fenders BAE or a ho-hum Chevy.

Not a wedge but doesnt the hellcat crate & accessories fit that bill? Nope. Big inch = 550"-632". Whatever I can do with a stock bore space deal. Carbureted. I've never had an engine built for me. Trust me, I've had some things I had to figure out. I can and would rather do it myself. I have guys who can do the machining. Assume I'm a purist and am willing to spend the money to either buy the parts and do it myself or have someone do it for me. Go.

Very cool build, should scoot fairly well.
Looking at new power plants for my dart, the G3 is tempting, but I started working for the General 2 weeks ago, so maybe I will end up with an LS haha

Later ....dont put words in my mouth...this is the only thing I said about money...and this states the exact opposite of what you say I said....And by the way...the turbo setup costs more than the engine itself....so I still have no quabbles with the decision I made.

The only thing that concerns me is the 7.50 cert. I think this will go 7.0's with no tune. You're going to bend up those tubes with that thing. Hopefully it stays fun for you and doesn't become ugly. A lot of guys race at tracks where there are no rules, tech, or Certs. It’s amazing what goes on in the Racing world

That's true, I had my car inspected at three different tracks, then from then on just turned in the tech sheet. Thats been at least 8 years ago. My belts are out of cert, don't tell anyone, but I do have a new certified big buck race car helmet.

At this years Halloween Classic (NHRA Norwalk) I got grabbed for an out of date helmet that expired this year according to NHRA rules but still good for IHRA. LOL

Thanks guys for the concerns.....even though the chasis only officially certs to 7.50 it still a full tube chasis car built by a profesional chasis builder......i feel that sfi only certs mild steel chasis to 7.50 to just keep some home brewed chasis from getting out there....though 1/8 mile racing is where i will stay moatly
Merry christmas everyone
