Need a chevy block, you have 10 or more choices new, on shelf, same day, and countless used ones.

Hey I need a Mopar block,,,and a time machine.

This is very true, plus a gazillion already well sorted combo's.

But, to me it's taking the easy route. I would rather walk the road less travelled but man, that road sure has a lot of stones. laugh2

There ya go--I agree with both these mopar gentlemen

As an engine builder I do lots of different brands--fact is I have grown so tired of overpriced 440 cores that I did a 289 Ford last January as the core was $100 and right in front of me so--long story short I have done over 20 289's this year--they sell before the paint gets dry--buyers never ask about HP and there is very little if any competition so....
Then I wanted a vintage Front Engine Dragster--found a great frame and well--it would not take a Mopar was too narrow so I put a SBC in it--first one I have ever owned in my life--bought a vintage 1966 Hilborn injection for it at fall swap meet for $600 on $1000 asking price--could I do that with a Mopar?? me thinks not --guess what--I have come to love that little engine
It takes a beating while running 15% nitro and laying down low 5 sec runs
Yea I miss my Crate Motor Duster and my Super B and all of the other great Mops I have had and yes I still LOVE to build a mean big block Mopar but as a business man it is easier to see the differences between the brands and when a customer starts talking real HP like the 1000 HP goal with a Mopar I cringe!! All while thinking how reasonable a 632 Chevy is and what it cost these days to do that with a Mopar is just not smart $$ for the average guy
I LOVE Mopars--but I also love my little Chebby

Picture is how I bet you all must be feeling about this thread

So, you'd be equally as fed up if he had an aftermarket block, with billet internals, and predator heads, and called it a Mopar??

I didn't say it was easy, I said it was the easy route. You proved my point. Have fun with your car and I hope it's all you expect it to be.

Exactly the opposite of my point. When instigator bought his engine or the pieces for it I'm sure it wasn't labeled as a 632 CID Generic race engine, nor were the components advertised as fitting the Generic race engine. Are Predator heads advertised to fit a Generic engine or a big block Chevy? No, no they are not. They are advertised to fit the 4.8 bore centerline Chrysler engine in either wedge or Hemi bolt pattern.

Just call a spade a spade and stop dancing around and parsing words. It's silly.

What you talkin' 'bout Willis?

I am having trouble getting the pinion snubber to work with my 4 link though. Maybe the pinion angle is incorrect... laugh2

I've been reading this thread and I've been trying to keep an open mind on this subject. Sticking a non brand engine in a specific brand body isn't new by any standard.

Hotrodders have been doing this forever. How many early Fords do you see with small block Chevys in them? Hundreds if not thousands and no one thinks a thing about it. Hell, I'm a Mopar guy and I have a Ford coupe with a Hemi in it. Does that make me a Ford guy? I don't think so... although I do appreciate all brands. That said, Mopar people seem to be way more brand loyal than anyone else. Why? Maybe it is because we do like to "take the road less traveled".

Is is socially acceptable among Mopar guys to stick a Chevy between the frame rails? Serious Mopar people would probably say no. However, many who feel that way fail to take into consideration the reality of today's performance market. In order to remain brand loyal Mopar guys spend more money, take more time scrounging parts, and generally wind up with less horsepower per dollar than the other brands. For some people this almost dictates switching to an off brand like Chevy.

When you take this into consideration it makes sense, even if it's not popular within the Mopar community. Unfortunately as time goes on and the aftermarket for our 60's era Mopars dries up its inevitable that more and more engine swapping between brands will take place.

So is the OP really a closet Chevy guy?? I would have to say, No. He's a Mopar guy that has accepted reality and as others have said, "decided to take the easy (less expensive) road. Although it pains me to say this, trust me.... he won't be the last.

Think a little more about this
They make K members for Fox body Mustangs so they will accept a guess what? Chevy! That swap is so common it is totally normal Now the deal is put an LS in anything--They even put LS kits out for Mazda Miatas so this is not a NEW deal guys
hey I remember 15 years ago I raced a Mustang with a 440 in it--named the . "MOTANG" so it cuts across all lines

Lets just say we all love HP and cars and on this site we all Really love Mopars best but hey--older I get the more open I am about most everything in life

The thing with Fox body mustangs is, LS, small block, and big block Chevys all fit better in those cars, than the factory ford engine does.

Its not new or uncommon by any means and is the norm on alot of non brand specific sites to see this like the bullet, here being a mopar site opinions will be a bit different.

AND look at the title of this.... Just to piss off some people so it seems a bit of conflict was expected.
