Never had much experience with auto cars but I do know that the 4 spd are different lengths, A,B,E etc. My question is, is it the same with the automatic transmissions or will a E-body trans work in an A-body without any modifications. Thanks for your help.

All car 727's are the same length as far as I know. Some trucks use a stubby one.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

The big block 727 is the same length as the big block Lakewood bell housing with the short A body 4 speed.

I was under the impression that they were all the same length. I acquired a 727 trans that supposed to have come out of a 1972 cuda. I am going to install in a 68 GTS. hopefully it will go smoothly no major surprises. Anything else anybody can think of, will be appreciated. Thanks to all.

A,B,C,E BB and SB 727 are the same length for every body style from 1965 and up scope The block bolt patterns are not the same but every thing else is including the converters and starters shruggy

this is not true frog

Lakewood bellhousing is the same dimension front to rear as a stock bellhousing (stock are the same piece between A/B/E bodies with same engine)

A-body bellhousing & 4-speed = same length as 904

B-body bellhousing & 4-speed = same length as 727
