Sorry to muddy the waters, but...
My 1970 Challenger convertible (Hamtramck, SPD 915) has a straight stud of the same style, in between the two lengths Snoopy pictured. About 8.25" to 8.5" (it's bolted in, so I can't get a precise measurement).
Down to just a blue car now.

I don’t think that these hold down rods were manufactured with an absolute precision cut “length”. This was an area that I researched and found at least three (slightly) different lengths that could have been used for a 1970 E Body vehicle. They were all within a half inch of being the same length which leads me believe that a “dimension” was probably specified but not precisely followed by the subsidized manufacturer who supplied these to Chrysler. I found other “X” vehicle models that used rods very similar to those found in most Chrysler vehicles. It appears that whatever round stock was used to make these was in close proximity to other styles and could have easily been “swapped” or “mixed up” during the machining process. Some samples had the exact same rod length but used a different number or “length” of threads. The tips were also different. Some had a ¼” smooth machined tip at the end and others had threads that ran to the end of the rod. Most of those (threads to the tip) were in the larger B and C Body vehicles.

I wouldn't think there would be a difference between cuda + challenger on this
Both cars where built at the same plants and used the same basic trunk pan, spare and other trunk accessories. Why would there be a difference in the wheel mounting stud?
I don't think the part was that critical. I would bet that if they ran out of the correct one, they would grab any stud that would fit just to keep the line flowing.
It appears that the "If there is a problem, let them sort it out at the dealer" rule applied in these situations.
I don't know about any of you, but in all the years I have owned cars, I don't ever remember having the desire to compare the length of my stud to someone else's. I wouldn't want to find out mine was to short. Who wants rod envy? Here are the part numbers from an engineering print and the 70-71 parts book showing 3 different studs (rods) for 70-71 E-Bodies.

Would not the space saver be much longer since the tire, jack hook and bottle all go on it?
The jack hook does not go on the rod.
