Should find a stamped VIN on the upper radiator support lip drivers side, package tray and the trunk rail under the weatherstrip drivers side.

The paint should come off the VIN sticker. Get some thinner, like Barry said above, the key is to soften the paint and not the sticker. So, just a little at a time. Keep looking at the rag and watching the paint come off. Start with a corner to figure out how it works. The plastic on the VIN sticker is actually pretty strong.
