AutoZone Bearing I'm working on a 72 Dart with 7.25 rear with 10" brakes, got a new bearing off ebay that said for 72 dart with 10" brakes & 7.25 rear, But it was too big in center, part # of it was skf rwc35-yyr So now I'm thinking of just going with the autozone one, but someone put on it that its undersized, what do you all think?

This horsepoop has got to stop. There is no such thing as an Autozone bearing!!!!!
For there to be one, Az would have to have a bearing factory and the plain and simple fact is, Autozone makes nothing. Period. They even have their sale flyers printed by a contractor. And this is exactly the same as O'Reilly's, Advance Auto, CARQUEST, NAPA, even Harbor Freight.
All these companies give their brand names to items that are made by others. That's how life works. Shoot, even back in the day, GM didn't make many of their frames, they were made by Budd. And Chrysler used Budd, too This is just one example.
And another thing - bearings are made to international standards. You, the designer, look in the bearing catalog and find what will work acceptably and then you make the part fit the bearing. Talking about rolling element bearings. It's been this way for at least 80 years.
Seals are the same. Many of the smaller parts you find on your car are made by a specialty company and picked out by the designer. O-rings are another, with standardized sizes across the globe (well, maybe not in France).
So if the bearing that someone bought from Autozone doesn't fit properly, either it was made with no quality control or else the shaft or bore it pushes against was made the wrong size. Or else the person trying to assemble it doesn't know how it is supposed to fit.
R.

He's been told repeatedly what's up, but he wants to hear what he wants to hear.

72 mopar axle bearing part number is 3420090 It`s not listing a difference for 9 or 10 inch brakes. Well thats not what I was asking about, but ok!..So that's just the way most other auto parts douse, all 72 & down you got to get the bearing for 9"?... Witch I was thinking same thing when I looked at bearing on the big bolt axle & saw it was the same as the new one I got that was bigger!

Yeal, on the new bearing I got off ebay, I first looked up the Napa one, 10" was high, so took the part number & went to ebay, guy had on their listed for my car, the little bit bigger bearing should be listed for 73 & up!.. That's prob. why autozone don't have 9" or 10" listed on theirs!

R. What he said and as you should know there is only one 7.25 bearing regardless of year and brake size.

I think I know that, I do have The numbers from my old one & it did not brag up the bearing on any auto parts, but did find some NOS ones on ebay, but that don't matter now, if you read the other post, all I need to know is has anybody ever had a prob. with the bearing from autozone like the ford guy wrote, I'm fixing to go order one, but it would of been good to know nobody has had any prob. with their brand of bearing!

I used AZ bearings on my 7-1/4 in my old Duster a few times. Order the right year and they work fine.

thirty thou smaller is definitely not going to work. even an identical size of "x" [where id. and od. are the same] is a press fit, but not much of one. on the bearing in question, was it exchanged for another and the exchange measured ? in my 55+years of playing with this junk [instead of the smart thing, being playing with tiddlywinks] i have seen all kinds of mismarked, misboxed, misprinted parts catalogs and computer programs that anything is possible when it comes to ordering parts. with out comparing the parts you need with others, a blanket statement about sizing can not be accurately made. as has been said, bearings and seals are made by someone other than the retailer, and those parts are made to a universal sizing standard. you can even go to an industrial bearing place and get the bearing and seal you need, providing you have the [correct] numbers, as those places rely on the standardization of numbers being od., id., and thickness, as well as being a sealed or non sealed bearing, instead of the application, be it industrial, automotive, or other use.

Just my two cents, but for my vehicles I will only use Timken bearings. Open the box and check before you buy it. The last Timken I bought turned out to be a generic bearing in a Timken box. There was no writing what so ever on the bearing. Could have been from anywhere. Would have been somewhat cheaper to just buy the junk chinese bearing instead of the same junk masquerading as a Timken.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I would surely would rather use a NOS mopar bearing before using a Duralast bearing. Probably made in China. Did you get the info for the undersize bearing from the autozone website? This is the review that was left. It apparently was for a Ford Mustang.
"This bearing does not fit Mustang 8" or small bearing 9"
Beware. This bearing is undersized by a whole bunch. If you try to press it on your axle without checking to see if it fits first, it will fly apart and possibly injure you. Maybe the ones I got were in the wrong box or mismarked or something, but they were in their sealed package.
The bearing should be a 0.002" to 0.003" press fit. There is no way it will go on the axle without breaking.
Pros: It is shiny when you take it out of the box
Cons: The ID of the bearing is almost 0.030" (THIRTY THOUSANDTHS!!!) undersized" Got one today from autozone that I had in the link & it was oversized, put it down on axel & its got room to move, loose on it, so I got to take it back, So I'm going to go with advance so I can get it next day! https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/nati...rear#fragment-3

Rock Auto shows the bearings for $7-18. Order one and be done. Done that once, Had a shop press it on & my rim was getting too hot even with brakes backed all the way off, after pulling axel out, the retainer ring looks a little side ways too me & I ask a guy at another shop in town, it looked a little sideways to him too, So I'm getting new one to go on again at a deff. shop, so I'll go with another brand at advance auto so I can get it next day!.. If the lowers priced NOS ones on e-bay had the retainer rig I may would of went with one of them!
